It comes down to a tax on the stupid, and exploiting the stupid is immoral.

There is no exploiting, you think server hosting is free? You think video cameras are free? You think my interent connection is free?

As for a tax on the stupid, do the stupid have to buy food like everyone else? What about water, clothes,,, or anything else that cost money?

By your reasoning, its ok for people to get stuff for free and at the cost of someone else?

You're awfully shrill defending your gravy train. Instead of promoting culture, you're trying to make money through very little effort of your own. If you want to make money, find a more ethical way of doing it. If you think you can make money by tracking me, you can fuck yourself. If the choices are getting tracked, and YouTube going away, YouTube can go away. The service isn't worth that much to me.

Would love to, but I have to go through a hassle of disabling it and reloading every time I want to watch something on Hulu or Crackle.

Just whitelist hulu or crackle. You wont have to do any more manual activities

DAMN PEOPLE use adblock. Fvck's sake!!

But yes youtube has no bandwidth and the inability to pre-load is one of the worst things, especially since it was the only good way to negate their dial-up server speed. Youtube is not usable during peak hours.Nope, this simply does not work anymore. I educated people on how to buffer online vids years ago. It's amazing how many people don't realize if you hit pause as soon as it starts it will keep DLINg--except youtube no longer allows it, certainly not in all cases.

It won't anymore, it only pre-buffers about 10 seconds worth then stops, I just wont bother with YT during peak hours, it gets too frustrating.

Considering he does not know what he is talking about, yea, I ignored it.

I would like to know how many people posting in this thread is a youtube partner.

How many people saying they run ad blocker like getting a pay check?

Why do you pretend like your created content is so damn important? Nobody cares about your pictures of a tree.

You keep shouting partner like its a hard thing to get or a selective club. Everybody and their mother is a partner. Youtubers can be so uppity.

Stop whining about your nickles and dimes from adsense.

There are ways to advertise on the internet without annoying people. Placing non intrusive ads (not animated or have some mouse over crap) is fine and is still effective. Flashy animated ads, pre video commercials, or ads that pop out in all sorts of ways, are unacceptable. What's funny is the companies who do this crap have shot themselves in the foot because now almost everyone runs adblock to get away from these annoying ads and by nature also block the non intrusive ones.

You serious? Post a link please!

They're refering to the videos that are rated for mature audience, there is a filter where youtube asks you to login if the content in the video is considered age restricted, so they want you to use your google login prior to viewing.

I used to tell the rubes on AT to not block ADs but they dont care. I make about $10-$20 month on YT Ads. Not much, but its nice to have subs, views and a couple of bucks on the side.

I would make about triple that if those cheapskates watched my ads. :'(

Same here. I get about $20-30 bucks a month from some random cat videos, and some stupid videos where I strip down some obsolete LAN stuff.

Looking at the ad statistics, about 3/4 of the hits are "non-monetizable", which basically means ad-blocked, iphones or earlier version android devices.

The video uploader can choose the style of ads. Either a small banner at bottom of screen, or pre-roll. I tend not to use the pre-rolls as they annoy me, but they bring in about 5-10x the revenue of banners (unless the videos attract "valuable" ads, e.g. my SFP and Xenpack smash-up videos, bring in up to $5 per click). Somewhat irritatingly, youtube have recently made pre-roll ads the default (it used to be banners only as default), so I have to manually tweak each video after uploading. However, this was done to support android devices, which don't support the banner ads.

I also shoot and edit my videos with the ad banners in mind, so they don't get in the way of anything interesting.

The real nuisance ads, are the non-skippable pre-roll ads. These generally only get used by corporations (e.g. record companies) either for their own stuff, or if they get a copyright match on an uploaded video.

How do you make money off youtube, does it somehow tie in to adsense or do you have to do something special? I make around 50/mo off adsense on my websites but as far as I know none of that comes from youtube.

Another system in youtube that needs to be killed is flagging. It hurts people who make money off videos. Anyone can flag a video just because they feel like it.

Speaking of adsense, is the interface screwed up for anyone else who runs Ubuntu? I have to use a windows VM just to go to that site. Under Ubuntu it's just a bunch of plain text crap and I can't actually do or view anything.

You have to be invited to be a Youtube "partner", or possibly you can get in if you're a major content producer and you've got an account manager with adsense.

The bar to be a partner is pretty low, so if you upload regularly and get a reasonable number of views, you'll get invited before too long. The trick is to upload regularly, at least 2x a month and never have any copyright claims against your account. I had a single cat video on my youtube account for about 5 years, which had accumulated about 10k views. Then I started uploading 4 vids a month (just total crap - drunk people eating scorpions, testing a new camera, etc.) When I hit about 30 videos and about 12k views (of which about 11,900 were the cat video) I was invited to sign up and link my adsense account to my youtube account.

I'm averaging around 100-120 per every 3 months (quarter).

FREE MONEY is FREE! (except you have to produce + record videos)

onza04 - search and you will see what I produce on YT. Mostly awesome stuff. (pure opinion though)

That's good to know. I don't upload much but I thought of getting into it more. So basically just wait for the invite.

I just looked at my videos, fuckers...

"Muggsy Spanier Ragtime Band-At the Jazz Band Ball", sound recording administered by:
SME
Pirames International Srl

Your video is blocked in these locations:
Germany
In some cases ads may appear next to your video. Please note that the video's status can change, if the policies chosen by the content owners change. Learn more about copyright on YouTube.

This claim does not affect your account status. Permanently replacing the audio with a song from YouTube's Audio Library will remove any audio claims and unblock your video. I want to replace the audio in my video with a song from the Audio Library.

A piece of a recording made in 1939, and used in a USA radio broadcast made for troops fighting in WWII is blocked in Germany :^S

I may challenge it. I have to read the particulars of copyright law. There's probably nothing I can do though. Big media's bought all the laws, and the only thing left for people is to bend over and take it. Go Obama! Go Romney! :^S

Yeah it's pretty hard to not get copyright claims unless you actually make your own music. Even then, if it sounds remotely close to something owned by WMG you will probably still get flagged. I've used LOTR sound track for some videos and got nailed. It was just videos of people fighting a boss and other things like that.

Pre rolls makes less than banners. The reason why is that they are more likely to be clicked or can take 30 seconds to a min or longer to play. The way to make money is to put valuable keywords in your tags. Do a search for the most expensive adwords. People bid on those. If you are lucky, and the click is legit, you might make $2-$10 per click on a word like "lawyer".

how much money can be made if you're a youtube partner?

Depends on your audience, how many views you get,,, all kinds of stuff.

Do a google search for top youtube earners.

Any recommended youtube adsense forums?

gotta do some research now

You would use the same technique in a video that you would blogging, create something interesting, target a niche market, create a brand,,,,.

There are lots of good articles out there on the types of videos that do well, such as animals, children, and women with big boobs.
