Was gonna start Fauda last night but when I launched Netflix it defaulted on a new movie Waco about that fiasco in 1993.

It's pretty good so far (maybe half thru it). I don't really know too much about the situation except for a couple general details.

Devs:
The simulation was based on determinism. When free will was exercised the entire chain of calculations based on determinism was disrupted.

But overthinking this stuff is no good. Its just a sci-fi story, a mishmash of convoluted theories. Its just there to be enjoyed.

And I did, until the very end.
they told Lily what was going to happen.
it's like telling an observed person that he's being observed.

it was good till eps 7 when they said they couldnt see the future past a certain date.
and the explanation for that in the season finale (eps 8) sucked because it made no sense.

Didn't realize Waco was a 6-part series. *Now* I'm probably halfway thru it, maybe in the 4th episode now. I think it's pretty good.

Holy heck, I'm not a Star Wars type nerd and enjoy them for what they are mostly but good grief, I had to watch this thing in shifts to make it through.

yup. i went thru the 1st 2/3 of the movie and it wasnt that bad. (see my review in this thread)
but stopped it at that point because it was going downhill fast.

i'm not going to finish watching it.
waiting for the fan edited version. (it helped SOOOO much for Eps VII: Force Awakens)

Extraction 7/10
Netflix movie with Chris Hemsworth. Just a good old action movie who cares about the plot really. Not a great movie by any means but it has lots of action and kills 2 hours. Has some pretty brutal scenes in it.

White Boy Rick - 7/10
Good acting, great music, interesting story and some decent character building. At 110 minutes it definitely jumped around a bit so you had to piece timelines together but overall an interesting movie and of course M. McConaughey was excellent.

After Life (Season 2) 7/10

There were only 6 episodes, so they went quickly in our lock-down world. I liked the first season more, as this season felt more serious than the first. Ricky Gervais still had some zingers for sure, but not as much as the first season. I will say the lone sex scene was among the most awkward moments I've seen on TV. :p

Why hasn't there been a sci-fi series as good as Firefly? I can't think of any that even come close.

I think its a lowest common denominator problem.
The masses prefer safe, warm, fuzzy garbage on their TV every night. Thats why those crappy family sitcoms survived all through the 80's.
The big networks need ratings to get ad revenue and they generally out out what they think the largest audience wants.

Whats really sad is a show like Firefly could survive today thanks to Amazon and Netflix making their own content, but that wasnt a thing back in 2001.
In fact I'm surprised neither HBO or Showtime has ever made a sci-fi series.

X Files S2 - 7.5/10

Despite some excellent episodes it's simply not as even as S1. The first and last episodes are stellar, as well as a few that reside in between.

I thought it was interesting that David Duchovny co-wrote the season finale. It's almost as though he decided "enough is enough" and forced his will on Chris Carter. The result is a bit janky but flows along with a genuine excitement. I kept on thinking THIS is the X files I want, not silly stuff lamenting the condition of circus animals with aliens shoehorned in to distract, or cannibals running an evil, nefarious chicken processing plant (message: don't eat industrial chicken).

The creepy episode with Scully and Mulder wasting away on a time traveling warship stands out as season-best imo.

Time for S3.

Extraction 7.5/10
(Starring Thor)

cliche emotionally damaged merc taking on a high risk job.

but i like the early plot twist.
also, it looks like Thor did some of his own stunts. impressive!

what i didnt like was another tired cliche of letting someone live because reasons only to get F'd by him later on.

edit:
+.5 pts for bulletproof vests actually working for generic red shirt bad guys

Hobbs & Shaw

11/10 - If you like stupid action movies that makes your cheeks hurt from constantly laughing at the absurdity of it all. Enjoy with alcohol. It makes it better.

Bad Boyz For Life - 7/10 - it was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. It's over the top and entertaining for 2 hours. I did get tired of the whole "we're so old" theme throughout the whole movie though. Like we get it, you guys are like 50 now. It reminded me of how we keep being reminded that we are in a pandemic right now on commercials. Like we know, thanks for reminding us.

after a lifetime of procrastination, i have finally watched Boyz N The Hood, and - while it wasn't *bad* - i have to say that i'm gonna stay with my original "by the cover" judgment: it's not a film for me.
I'm sure if you got raised in the ghetto, this would mean much to you but me, as a white, intellectual aristoctrat, it was just a boring family film. Dad doesnt want the kid to make bad choices.
I'd give it a 6/10
it's well acted, well paced, but the story does not appeal to me.
