I watched the first 7 episodes in a binge one night when I couldn't sleep. Oddly similar to the original Narcos: I watched the entire first season of that show in one binge, and some of the second in the same sitting iirc. I was engrossed.

Devs isn't on the same level as Narcos but I found it hypnotically watchable. I also had trouble rating it.

I didn't click on your spoiler because I'm letting some episodes pile up for another mini-binge.

There's only 8 episodes, so you just have the finale left to finish. We'll discuss after :D

Granted it could be called a "chick flik", but just streamed Little Women. I though it was great, 9/10. Acting was outstanding, especially Saoirse Ronan, who I find irresistible.

Oa (season2) eps 1-4: 7/10
Haven't watched the last 4 yet.

Much weirder than season 1 but still decent.
How does cutting a
tentacle kill the octopus
?
OA was planned by its creators to be a five-part story told in five seasons.
but it was canceled after season 2. :(

also, whats up with 2 year cycles per season nowadays?
Westworld, OA, American Gods, Man in the High Castle, etc

i miss the old 1 year between seasons like Game of THrones

Ray Donovan Season 1 - 7/10 Good show but I could do without the superfluous emotional character experiences thrown in. His wife is one whiny bitch.

The Happytime Murders - 8/10 Damn near perfection! Melissa McCarthy, who sucked up 30% of the budget should not have ben cast in this film. I get they wanted a big name but she added nothing more. Its dark comedy and the jokes are hilarious. Add this to the list of cult classics like Shakes the Clown and Death to Smoochy.

Rust Creek - 6/10 Enjoyable movie but a too much foreshadowing in places so the surprises were a tad predictable. Overall a solid thriller of the backwoods type.

What Keeps You Alive - 7/10 Psycho lesbian thriller at the lakehouse. Overall a solid thriller with a few plot holes. Lead actress gave a solid performance.

The Dark Tower - 5/10 Film was a mess, it had potential, but it turned into a childs movie.

Green Book - 8/10 Very enjoyable easy to watch flic. Definitely a few cringe worthy scenes (fried chicken) but overall both leads gave excellent performances and was a great feel good movie. Opening 10-minutes at the Copa was magic.

Christopher Titus has been putting episodes of his early 2000s TV show Titus and all his comedy specials up on youtube. Loved the Tv show when it first aired and while it has aged it is still fun and something to kill time with while sitting around the house.

Titus was great!

For another short lived show that I have fond memories of that can not be seen easily - Men Behaving Badly with Rob Schneider.

Just got done with Rambo: Last Blood on Amazon Prime. 6/10

Is it great, or even good? No. It's a silly revenge fetish flick. Like Man on Fire did for kidnapping, R:LB splatters the sex trade all over the screen. Even though Sylvester Stallone often looks like a goblin I didn't mind seeing Rambo setting all of his traps one last time. The movie is heavy on idiot plot but it's a shallow action movie so I didn't care. Lots of ground hamburger.

The Hoax 8/10 Richard Gere as Clifford Irving in a slightly fictionalized version of how Irving sold and almost published the fake autobiography of Howard Hughes in the early 70s. Not a Gere fan, but he's really good in this and if you like light, breezy heist/swindle movies like Oceans 11 or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels you'll enjoy it. Solid long con story, like a 2 hour episode of Hustle or Leverage.

And BTW, if you like cons, binge Hustle or Leverage if you have not already seen them.

Watched the first 3 episodes of "Mrs. America", about Phyllis Schlafly's campaign to block ratification of the ERA. I though it was good, not great. Kate Blanchet does a great job, but simply cannot help herself from exuding a classiness that Schlafly lacked. 8/10 (also has Rose Byrne, Margo Martindale and Elizabeth Banks)

I was in my 20s when the ERA ratification started to take place, but I was not really aware until reading up on it in regard to this movie that the ERA was never ratified, although some think it still could be. (The courts would have to decide if the 7 year limit on ratification is valid or not.)

Just fished Devs.

I liked it. Its definitely worth checking out for anyone who likes slow-burn sci-fi.

I thought - and this is just me- the ending was a little weak. It seemed like they reached a logical conclusion and kept stumbling on past it for what felt like too long.

Maybe they got a belated ok to do a S2 and had to do a hurried re-write.

like you i've finished the 1st 7 eps of Devs.
its too late to start the last eps because i wont be able to sleep if i watch it, no matter what happens.

i liked the detachment style of the main chars ala MAtrix.
what i didnt like so far is the WTF LeftField announcement in eps 6 that they cant see past a certain date. and they've known for months they cant see past that date.
it is now hrs from that date.

what happened to the consequences of knowing the future and telling the person (Lily) about it?
something about telling an observed person that he's being observed?
Except cause precedes effect. effect leads to cause. The Future is fixed.
WTF?!?

All so Matrix-like bs.

Infinite multiverse.
One path is Lily not going to Devs at that date and time.
Another path is Lily going to Devs...

i watched not one but TWO good things!!

The first is Akira Kurosawa's Derso Uzala - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071411/

It's .. good. Just good, and not great. I wouldn't call it *weak*, but rather, not as engrossing as his previous works. Yet, i still managed to watch the whole thing, IN RUSSIAN, at two and a half hours. (and i was surprised how much of the original dialogue i could understand)
At the beginning of the 20th century, a group of russian topographic expedition runs into a sub-mongolian trapper named Dersu Uzala. At first a comical figure, he shows great understanding of the forest and helps them in many ways, and they become friends.
Years later, the captain of the expedition again encounters Derso, and this time it's his turn to show Dersu his knowledge of the city instead.

The end is rather predictable, but the largest part of the film has that Jack London / White Fang vibe that ... was so lacking in The Revenant, and that i'm totally biased for.

Good film.

7.5/10

And then, i'm not sure how, i watched a Netflix original called Fauda - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauda

In arabic. Because who needs english, amirite?
Terrorism vs antiterrorism in Israel. If you like that Sicario shit, you'l looooove this show. This is crude and real and full of feeling.

Preliminary vote: 8/10 need to watch more episodes - it's not easy to find.

Hud 9/10

A phenomenal character study, even though the story lacks quite a bit. Very similar to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, except it has more than just one location on just one evening. Though I still love Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for Liz Taylors performance.

Devs ep8

resurrection?! WTF?!

also, free will vs pre-determination:
so no matter what choice Lily made, it would have ended up the same?
The Future is fixed?

ie:
if Lily choice not to goto Devs on that destined day, she would somehow still wound up there?

i guess there wont be a Season 2, which i would give +Points for ending it as art and not butchering it to create a Season 2

Then thing is: If they weren't setting up a season 2 what the hell was up with the black lady being there at the end?

The whole thing was being set up with Lilly as a quasi-Neo character who has the inner gift and strength to choose free will over determinism. Her choice would then end the inevitability of determinism and ripple throughout the universe, creating free will for all. That's why the simulation stopped working.

But they kept going........

The Boys - 9/10. Very entertaining. I am anticipating season 2 after the season 1 finale. I went out and got some of the graphic novels and there are some divergences from the series.

The Office - 9/10. Yes, I had not watched it until now. I binged it off and on over the last few months. Overall, really enjoyed it. First season, a little rough around the edges, but nothing to write home about. Season 2-7 really shined. Season 8 and 9 was mostly forgettable. When Steve Carrell left, it sucked some of the soul out of the series. Great character development with Dwight, who went from someone you wanted to lose, to someone you actually cheered for by the time the series ended. Creed's final appearance can only be said to be fitting. Loved Jim & Pam, though the higher focus on Dwight's character towards the end made him a favorite with me as well. And the cameo by Bob Odenkirk was funny considering he was originally considered for the role that went to Steve Carrell. And I'm sure Jim Halpert and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin gang would agree, Go Birds!

Handsome Siblings (Netflix) - 7/10. Not bad in terms of cinematography. Fight choreography was decent. Based off of a Gu Long story. The actor who played Jiang Xiao Yu (Xiao Yu Er aka Little Fish) was not bad, but I wasn't a fan of the Hua Wu Que character. Very pretty female leads. Lots of twists and turns to the story. Be warned, it's 40+ episodes.

Let me go on a tangent here. I do urge anyone interested in manga, or just fantasy stories to give some of the Chinese Wuxia series a shot. Wuxia means martial heroes, so think along the lines of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon type stories but in a full length 20 to 50 episode series. Many of these are not readily available in the west, but try seeking out classics such as the trilogy of Legend of the Condor Heroes, Return of the Condor Heroes, and The Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. Or for some humor, and from the same author as the previous trilogy, one of my favorites was The Deer and the Cauldron whose protagonists is an uneducated pathological liar and womanizer who rises to fame and becomes best friends with the emperor.

that makes no sense.
Lily doing something other than what the predicted crashed the machine?
There should be a branch in the multiverse. One fork is Lily doing what is predicted. The other is Lily not doing that.

it goes back to ep6 when Katie said something along the lines of what if she puts her hands in her pocket if she knew the computer predicted that she would fold her arms?

the show doesnt answer that question. it goes into MAtrix style mumbo jumbo of:
cause precedes effect. effect leads to cause. The Future is fixed.

The simulation was based on determinism. When free will was exercised the entire chain of calculations based on determinism was disrupted.

But overthinking this stuff is no good. Its just a sci-fi story, a mishmash of convoluted theories. Its just there to be enjoyed.

And I did, until the very end.
