Don't forget that sometimes those jobs, rather often in fact, pay less than most laid off workers made in their chosen line of work (and especially less than the healthy benefits that lapsed). It shouldn't be hard to understand why the unemployed aren't interested in working what may be a "demeaning" job for them all the while also bringing in far less income. Likely it isn't going to be sufficient for most people and won't pay the bills.

They often pay less because they limited worker hours to disallow "full time" work for their employees - with also many of the employees preferring that so they stay under the threshold of income to allow for one or many of the government benefits.

Ultimately, I guess we will see how they respond since the added $600/week is now gone... Next month's job report will tell us.

I miss old Levi's, they aren't what they used to be. If you can still find a pair from 20 years ago like I've got in my closet, they're excellent quality. To be clear I'm not some xenophobe, I don't have a specific issue with globalization or things made in eastern Asia, aside from America generally exporting the cost of cheap labor to foreign countries. My issue is when those countries turn around and export the cheapest goods imaginable, designed specifically to wear out in a season or two so they can be replaced.

NB needs to remove/downsize that HUGE "N" letter on their shoes and do a better job of designing before I would wear their sneakers.

Levi's made in US. No dispute there from made in US vs. made in oversea Levi's jeans.

I have no argument about the quality and workmanship are going downhill but to say brands such as UA, CK, Penguin, Chaps, etc. are "cheap garbage" and would fall apart after 1 to 2 years is an exaggeration statement. UA is not cheap. I haven't find an UA t shirt for less than $10/each, even clearance price at TJ Maxx or Ross.

I don't think LL Bean makes shirts for office use. No comment about Wigwam. Never hear about it before.

I use those brands I mentioned personally and none of them fall apart after a year or two. Unless you use them weekly and wash them every week. I have a hard time to believe that you still have those NB shoes after 14 years and you use them daily.

Often the problem is that companies make decisions to cut corners on materials, process, or manufacturer quality to make more profit. People think it's about it being made abroad when that's not the issue.

Columbia might get away with it because NYC positives are so low.

Yale stands a chance given their aggressive testing regime and their saliva test just got FDA emergency use approval. If pooled they could effectively carpet bomb COVID with testing.

Cornell here, we're super isolated geographically which might save us. Inquiring minds want to know!

Looking through the testing regime and it's not bad. Re-entry testing, weekly surveillance testing, pooled samples, on campus lab, etc. 2x weekly testing would be better and they could decide to move to that once things are running.

Will it work? Not sure but it's a much better plan than most schools AFAIK.

Yeah it's a good plan, and they actually have world-class epidemiologists... I guess it's an example of 'if it can work anywhere, it better work here'. I don't have high hopes, given the near total dependency on the same students that refused to stay the F at home because 'they wanted the college experience'.

I was thinking the same thing then realized, WTF the difference, people are coming from all over to come to the small collages around here.
I hope the schools around the area have good plans in place.

Wow that is very good news. Originally it seemed that research was pointing towards immunity not lasting long, but it was still early to say for sure.

My local area had a moderate number of cases and my county was gaining 25-30 cases per day. Today, it was closer to 10.

I'm hopeful that mask mandates are helping here. It was ridiculous back in May/June.

Wuhan just had thei first pool party with thousands in attendance. Look at all those people. They can't all not have COVID19.
