Its funny because you got invited to one party and critized it you think no one else could possibly be having parties ;) so cute. I bet everyone quits doing drugs and having fun because of a virus? Nope they are just not inviting you
Did I say that? No. I said that they risk public scorn since you can't have a party without telling anyone about it. This has undeniably suppressed many if not most parties. We keep seeing news about police busting up parties of mayor's publicly shaming people who do it anyway. Throwing a party during the height of the pandemic generally will bring negative attention.

And if you are a gang member or drug user or normal person what do u care about negative attention. Also how are they breaking up parties that don't exist!! Parties happen everyday all day in every city, just because you didn't pass out fliers and have hundreds of people doesn't mean its not a party

Again, I never said these parties don't exist. Do you have me confused for someone else?

The Karen's in my town are bored, and are now publicly shaming people who aren't wearing face masks on the town Facebook group.

That's annoying enough on it's own, but then there is nothing in the new law that says that you need to wear a mask outside. It's only an indoor thing. So, they're really just whining over nothing most of the time.

If they ever get a HOA passed in my neighborhood, and I am peacing the F out of here and moving back into the woods. The last thing I need is these bitches complaining about the dandelions in my lawn or the color of my mailbox.

The concept of "You need to wear a mask at all times"...is ENTIRELY fucking retarded. Completely.

There is absolutely no reason to wear a mask when you are by yourself, strolling around taking a walk, driving in your own car, etc... If you are within feet of others on an ongoing basis (e.g. in a store) then fine - it might have some benefit (which is also debatable).

If anything, if the mask is taking in germs - It likely increases the probability of touching your face from adjusting, putting on/off, etc... In addition to the fact that most americans are too dumb to decontaminate it after each use.

how do you know when someone will come near you? mask at all times is better, sure when you are driving you can take it off, i wear a surgical mask over my n95 and change out the surgical and also rotate 20 diff n95's i bet the virus dies after 10 days on the mask if it did infact make it into the n95. i think most americans are not to dumb they possibly just dont care enough or are to lazy. funny at my work masks are mandatory but people still wear them around their chin or not at all or under their nose. but if you go to mc donanlds or olive garden etc, they can all wear them just fine!

I went to pickup my weekly sushi takeout and things seem to be slowly returning to normal. My favorite Japanese restaurant is still takeout only but I saw other restaurants open for dine in. I drove by oyster and seafood bar and all the outdoor patio tables were fully occupied with people dining. The parking lot was full of cars. They were closed for over a month because they're dine-in only restaurant. It felt strange yet was nice to see people sitting outside and eating again! Something that was normal couple months ago now seems abnormal. The waiters and servers were all wearing masks. It felt like I was dreaming as I drove by. Now I want some raw oysters on a half shell. Damn.

"Health experts say the coming months would be a good time to prepare for a potential second outbreak of the virus."

Yeah, I think I'm gonna take this advice, especially if things get bad this winter.

All I was saying is that parties are more likely to be known about in general and less likely to go unnoticed in the pandemic climate. They exist and are notorious.

Last I checked, a certain someone took a lot of heat for suggesting that they are completely voluntary.

i think most americans are not to dumb they possibly just dont care enough or are to lazy.
More than half of the people I see wearing surgical masks are wearing them below the nose.

I think we are too dumb.

I don't even think it'll take that long. With all the states and local jurisdictions reopening, the virus isn't being suppressed for much longer. If you look at the numbers for the U.S., it's been mostly stable for weeks now (daily cases and deaths). So although hospitalizations in some of the hardest hit areas have eased, clearly there are community infections in new areas. The curve may have bent slightly from a couple weeks back; but I would not be surprised if R (effective) increases again. This is more or less expected in any community where mitigation is relaxed, unless you have really good testing and contact tracing. Unfortunately as a whole, the U.S. has OK testing and poor contact tracing.

Some may argue that maintaining this slow rolling of the virus is OK, as Americans have tired of the economic pain. Although unintentional in our case, consider this a variation of the Sweden strategy.

lol people rent striking in New York.

I just love the concept of people living in a make-believe world where their landlords are all the Monopoly man - as if they don't have mortgages to pay for with those rent payments.

Whatever, hope they get evicted personally.

There is a difference between going to a landlord and saying "look, I lost my job, I can't pay X because Y reason. Is there a way to pay next month or reduce the amount?" and "I'M NOT PAYING FOR THE SERVICES THAT I AM USING BECAUSE I DONT FEEL LIKE IT!"

Which means we'll YOLO the fuck out of it and then be wondering why the shit hits the fan in November.

Maybe we should consider just putting a bunch of people into comas and hibernate their asses through the winter.

I don't know, that's actually probably an improvement in comfort compared to an airplane bathroom.
i dont understand whats wrong with the bathroom on a plane and what it has to do with virus's? i fly often and have no issues with the tiny bathrooms even tho i am 6'3+" and 240. (now if i was goign to try and fit two people and do anything fun in the bathroom it might be a issue) i enjoy the challenge and sure beats a outhouse when you go camping. how is sitting in your own shit for 14 hours going to help anything? ill be excited when we can fly international again. All the countries have the virus whats the big deal now with travel :p

If anyone is interested, Steve Gibson has a description of how Google & Apple plan on deploying their contact tracing thru their products in one of his Security Now podcasts.

Starts talking about it roughly an hour into the show. Transcripts if you want to read it too.

I keep hearing about "strong" evidence that this virus came from a lab. Well then, lets see it.

It's more of a lot of coincidences...

Lab was currently heavily studying bats + virology in general with it.

They had been cited for shitty lab practices IIRC at some point.

That's about all I know, I'm sure if there was some kind of actual investigation (LOL CHINA LOL) then it might turn up more.

Ultimately I'm undecided, but similar to the wet-market theory, it deserves further research.

I am constantly disagreeing with people that are saying it was engineered and released on purpose. I agree that the likelihood that it was an accidental escape is about even with natural escape, and personally I like it better in the odds department, but I don't see how it will ever be proven. Given the crazy spread and that it spreads before showing symptoms makes it highly likely to be able to escape due to accidental exposure in a lab setting, hell we contaminated our own test kits.

The Secretary of State had this to say:

The problem is that our current administration doesn't have much in the way of credibility, even within its own ranks:

It doesn't help that they are pushing for specific results, rather than trying to get to the truth:

Is it a possibility that it was an accidental lab leak? Sure:

But based on what the evidence says, nah:

The genomic features described here may explain in part the infectiousness and transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 in humans. Although the evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 is not a purposefully manipulated virus, it is currently impossible to prove or disprove the other theories of its origin described here. However, since we observed all notable SARS-CoV-2 features, including the optimized RBD and polybasic cleavage site, in related coronaviruses in nature, we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.

My hope is:

1. That this was natural & not man-made

2. That we're hitting the peak of it & that it will slow down & go away

I really hope that we don't see a resurgence in the winter & don't see any of this next year. The 1918 Spanish flu lasted about a year, although per Wikipedia, "A report published in 2016 in the Journal of the Chinese Medical Association found evidence that the 1918 virus had been circulating in the European armies for months and possibly years before the 1918 pandemic." From what I've read so far, the earliest known case was in mid-November 2019. Hopefully this thing will just die off & go away & not be stuck with us for years :(

Huh?

"Engineered" is different from "collected, studied, then accidentally escaped" -- which you initially seemed to understand.

"Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus."

How does this rule out accidental exposure?
