I see we have another Princess Cruises situation, off California this time. Anybody getting on a cruise ship right now has got to be out of their mind.

Southwest Airlines has now warned on revenue.

Latest news -

United Airlines is cutting at least 10% of domestic flights and 20% of international flights because of lower demand. Lufthansa has canceled 7,100 flights.

OPEC is having an emergency meeting to deal with the lowest demand ever for crude oil, even lower than the recession of 2008.

There are more than 95,000 cases of infection around the world with over 3,300 deaths. At least 85 countries around the world have infection cases. Japan is shutting down all schools for now. Twitter, Facebook, Intel, Vevo, Mashable, Tiktok are dropping out of South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas.
I got a free upgrade on United for my flight on Monday from economy to economy plus, which isn't much but it's more legroom. I'm not complaining!

I was wondering if it had to do with people being scared to fly now. It turns out it may be.

I'm hoping my return flight also gets us a free upgrade!

Can you imagine the global economic recovery once this stupid virus scare dies down? People are going to have all this excess money and they're going to be itching to go out and spend. Staying at home gets old and people will get restless.

You live in Germany? For some reason I thought you lived in the deep south of 'Murica.

I don't, he does. I've lived all over the western US and Canada, but I stay out of the south. Can't handle the humidity or the stupidity. My brother did say it's actually less crazy in Italy than in many other parts of Europe in terms of the peoples reactions. Italians just don't really give a fuck which is probably why they have so many infected.

I'm not going out to eat. I'm not traveling. I'm staying at home saving lot of money. Dining out and travel make up huge percentage of my discretionary spending. There are lot of people like me. When things return to semi-normal, I will have extra money to spend.

Leftover discretionary spending goes to paying down debt. Just because I cook more more this month doesn't mean I have more money that i'm hoarding to spend next month, it just means I get to pay down more debt this month.

Do most people pay debt statically and just shift leftover fun money over? I'm speaking of normal people, not ATOT millionaires.

Good for you, but I don't think that's in any way representative of the people on this forum, much less all the people in this country.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a fluff piece, I'm just genuinely surprised that most people at the end of the month say 'sweet, i have an extra $100, better spend that on new shoes' instead of 'thank god i can finally get a little ahead of this stupid credit card/fix my leaky car/replace that broken toilet'.

"Staying at home" and "saving lot of money" are oxymorons for most wage-earners. Staying home means closing shop.

When you have to wipe your ass with wash cloth because everyone bought all the toilet paper, you're going to wish you hoarded toilet paper. :p

I've been on one cruise in my adultlife - a few in my kid life (that I don't have fond memories of from it being so long ago)....

All I can say is...never again. Wowzers. I have zero plans to ever go on a cruise in life ever again. The rooms are more crampt together than a god damn airline seat. The food is always horrendous because it's always basically microwave shit.

But yeah, with how close you have to be to SO many people on a cruise, it's a pandemic waiting to happen.
