Thanks for that positive note and reminder! The media has been been its usual self blasting about over 'studies' on antibody retention, and I fell for it*. I guess it’s going to take time to get good studies on long term T cell effectiveness and beta cell 'memory'.

*This surge is putting me on edge.

The CDC is having meetings about vaccines and this slide is pertinent to concerns about immunity memory.

Just saw on Inside Edition earlier today, Americans were stocking up meat and other groceries items again. Out of stock part II?

Morons part II.

Meat was never scarce. TP was never scarce. It's just incompetent fools.

Good thing that prior to the idiots I always carry extra stuff like that in the garage just because I'd always rather have an extra couple of extra costco packs of them than worry about keeping up with "Hmmm do I need new ones this weeks or not?"

Yeah. Kinda wish I had a small deep freezer just to keep up with the madness. TP was nearly wiped out when I placed my order for groceries today. I bought 12 rolls (plus we have an 'emergency' dozen rolls of Scott in the basement). After that, there's always the 4 weekly flyers we get in the mail 😉

explain in dumbass-speak please.

Is "serum antibodies" the equivalent of any vaccine? Are memory B cells the equivalent of natural antibodies?

After an infection is defeated the level of antibodies in blood serum starts to fall over time as production ceases. Memory B cells can remember what the viral antigen (protein on the outside of the virus) looks like and can start antibody production again when presented with it to fight a subsequent infection.

That would explain it.... thanks!

TP became scarce because people stocked up. I stocked up before that happened because I knew that it'd become scarce due to people making it so.

A little bit of dark humour.

Yep, and the lockdown greatly disrupted supply chains for both TP and meats, along with many other products. Of course, not everywhere at once either. But people in heavily populated areas went from living much of their life outside the home to staying home almost full-time, and yea, it impacted supply chains.

So is it ok to go to restaurants that look crowded? Fauci says you shouldn't. Is he telling the truth or just trying to support a point of view? Not trying to drag politics into it with that last question.

Where's the sarcasm tag? What makes you think Dr. Fauci isn't telling the truth?

In seriousness, I received an excellent article on this topic just yesterday. Ignore the exact numbers since it's a scientific model, but at least understand the broad strokes:

In short, willful possible exposure to SAR-CoV2 in a crowded restaurant is not very smart. It's been widely reported that the main driver of transmissions right now (and going into winter) are private gatherings in homes.

European hot spots have shown to be a leading indicator of likely U.S. outcomes. With the worst-hit EU countries now "locking down," you can guess what could be coming to hard hit areas in the U.S. in the weeks ahead; and also what precautions all Americans should take not just to protect themselves but to help their communities. Sadly, knowing human nature and our domestic politics, people will wait for shit to hit the fan first...

In the broadest sense contained areas with poor ventilation and other unmasked people for long periods of time are the most dangerous places. Especially if there is a lot of talking. Indoor dining is in a higher risk tier IMO.

The first death I know of in my far extended family was a result of an indoor birthday party. Multiple people contracted. I've seen lots of people throwing Halloween parties on social media so I think we are really deeply fucked for the rest of the year. My immediate family already has given up on any in person holidays because we all think the risk is much too great.

Restaurants should not be crowded period right now, they're suppose to only allow every 2nd table, and only 8 people per table (that number changes a lot, but basically there is a limit). If you see any place that's crowded I would avoid it. But they should not even be letting you in at that point.

Avoid restaurants that have loud music too, since it forces everyone to have to speak louder which means more risk.
