Latest news -

Almost 2,000 new cases in Hubei, at least 1,765 deaths, 355 infections on the cruise ship in Japan. This is scary part - "The head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said the outbreak is on the verge of a global pandemic if containment steps fail to show more success."

And S. Korea just says it has at least another confirm case in its hands.

The real issue is with China being obsessed with keeping their airlines running. Cathay Pacific and Air China are still flying to and from the US. What else would you expect, and why are there still tourists going to China? People should just wait till the virus thing is over before going on vacation to China. The good news is that the number of cases inside mainland China, and outside of Hubei, is actually on the decline since the end of January. Thus it seems that the majority of the statistics are just inside of Hubei province.

At the same time I blame the avaition administrations of not just China, but other countries as well for still alowing flights to and from China, Hong Kong, and Maccau, to land in their country. Even Chinese tourists that where in America before the start of the outbreak are much safer in America than back at home.

The Daily Mail has a other bombastic article about it being potentially man-made. Yeah, normally I wouldn't even mention it considering that publication as the source, but Tim Poole points out that the actual author herself is credible:

Contributes to the New York Times and other respectable publications. They're saying that one of the infectious disease research labs was literally right next to the wet seafood market that was originally considered the source. Like, literally yards away. They're also saying that they were experimenting with bat Coronaviruses there and one of their people had self-quara tines after accidental exposure a couple months ago. Seems to have happened more than once.

Today was a fairly good day regarding new confirmed cases outside of China. Only about 15 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, which is a substantial decrease from the past few days. I'm not counting the cruise ship debacle, because it is no way representative of the real world.

Some bombshells here:
Contains an interview with a crematorium operator where they do the math. 69% of those being cremated died at home... undiagnosed. Doubt they were counted as confirmed or clinically-diagnosed.

Cruise ship situation is an example of quarantined folks that were a unique opportunity to see how long it takes to show symptoms....then the crew of the ship screwed that up when they had someone on staff visiting rooms that was infected. Most viruses show symptoms after a few days of contact. The fear with coronavirus is that it may take a few weeks or longer to take hold. That gives people more opportunity to unknowingly spread it. Of course, with the Chinese culture, that doesn't matter.

99 new confirmed on the ship in Japan with 70 of those being asymptomatic. LOL at the thought of containing this no one even knows they have it.

As far as I know I had the mild version last week, coughed for 5 days with a minor sore throat. Sucks for the rest of you since I was not concerned about quarantining myself.

A few more NewsGuard-certified sources reporting the increased likelihood that it came from a BioLab. Unfortunately, it's getting sickeningly politicized:

Washington Post and New York Times is deliberately equating any mention of this with the conspiracy theory that it was a deliberate or accidental release of a bio weapon. The people they are ridiculing aren't saying that.

It could be 100% natural or it could also just be that some lab worker caught a bat or other animal Coronavirus through direct exposure and it naturally exchanged genes with a human Coronavirus inside this infected individual to develop the ability to transmit between humans directly. That's exactly how animal-to-human influenzas typically jump to human-to-human transmission (think: Bird Flu).

You probably had the flu...

It was allergies, or ebola, definitely one of the two.

However I was at a massive manufacturing plant last week that was full of people from Asia. So I probably picked up a bit of everything from there.

I was joking about the Kung Flu Fighting comment. I didn't originate it, but thought it was amusing enough to re-use. Anyway, I do find this virus scary, but I was raised on movies like Andromeda Strain, something so lethal that you couldn't Nuke It From Space as it would have only helped it. BTW, I was about eight when I saw that movie.

The latest numbers outside of China are very positive for most of the world. Even Hong Kong (and to a lesser extent, Singapore) are showing signs of mitigated spread. Japan, however, looks pretty bad.

I wonder about that - if it gets worse, it will cause serious economic problems which will in turn cause more political problems. Bad stuff always begats more bad stuff.

Economic hardship coming in china because of this mess?

Eventually here too if it gets worse ... its already effecting the limo-business I work for in that we were meeting 8-10 or so flights from China a DAY before Covid-9. (and taking people people to JFK/EWR to depart for China on roughly the same number)

Also China makes the vast majority of our "cheap-stuff" and if they stop churning it out whatever shall we do when our current "stuff" breaks and needs replacing?

Wow, the management of the infection on that cruise ship sounds like a total failure, very surprised Japan would screw up this badly
