Non-asian, chopsticks. I prefer the flat, metal ones most Koreans use.

I never understood the point. How many thousands of years ago were the fork, spoon and knife invented?

And some people still use sticks?

... first of all, let's leave out the knives and spoons. asians do use knives when required, they are just aren't very useful for that kind of diet. we use spoons too (!) when it makes sense.

so forks vs. chopsticks... chopsticks work fine, chopsticks are very versatile, chopsticks are not hard to use - even little kids in china use them, it's not hard. which is better? that's hard to say. east asian diet evolved with the chopsticks, so a fork would have a lot of trouble with it. ignoring the kind of diet, in absolute terms, a fork is more intuitive, chopsticks are more versatile (in the hands of a proficient user, imo anyway), but that level of versatility is not necessary. so I suppose you could argue forks are better ignoring everything else. however asian diet being what it is, chopsticks are still very relevant.

There is nothing more pretentious than a non-Asian using chopsticks. It's like eating soup with a fork, there are more effective tools for the job.

1000 years ago, it was considered rude to bring a knife to a table. Why? Cause you kill with a knife.
Also it was rude to make the guest work to cut up food. Much more proper to have it ready to eat.

WE don't kill with knives anymore, but apparently the utensils stayed.

Awwww, did I hurt your feelings? Are you one of the pathetic losers who wants to look cool by using the inferior utensil? That has to be it, only by getting your panties in a bunch could you possibly overlook the fact that a spoon is an improvement over drinking out of the bowl much in the same way that forks and spoons are improvements over chopsticks.

I'm Asian and the only time I have chopsticks at my apartment is when I get Chinese takeout, which is nearly never.

Heh, as someone who supposedly admires Paine you disappoint. I'd expect at least a modicum of ability to comprehend the rise of civilization world wide and the different cultural traditions and mores that come with it. Next time you're in India try eating with your hands, but don't go to the Ritz and expect the same. Pretty simple internet buddy.
