No passing. Truck tries to kill motorcyclist

I can relate. I am a douchebag.

I've had my fair share of douchebag moments as well. I just try to limit them when I'm on my motorcycle, given that regardless of who's right or wrong, if something bad happens, I'll likely be the one who dies.

The biggest problem I have with other people having douchebag moments while riding is that it then negatively reflects on me. I honestly couldn't care less what drivers think of me, but when those unfounded opinions cause them to try and take out their frustrations on me, it then becomes my problem.

Everyone in that video was stupid. The dude in the truck has major anger issues. And really, what is the other guy calling the cops for?

"Yes officer, my friend was trying to pass this guy on a double yellow at 100mph and he tried to run my friend off the road! Victim victim!!!"

attempted murder is not the same as reckless driving. Reckless driving can lead to death but usually with motorcycles its only the driver and even if not it still isn't close to purposely trying to murder someone.

Motorcyclist passed in a no passing zone - he's at fault for that.

Also the truck driver is probably pissed at these fucking morons on crotch rockets flying through their little town at unsafe speeds because they think they can just do whatever they want because they're assholes.

If the truck shoved him into the tree I don't think I'd care.

This is what I was thinking [except for the part of about shoving him into a tree].

Everyone was wrong in this video:

[1] Truck driver for trying to enforce the laws. For all we know, this could've been the result of many riders who like to push their crotch rockets to the limit and he'd had enough. I think honking the horn and noting the license plates of the motorcycles [to report to the police] would've been sufficient.

[2] MotorcyclASSts for passing on a double line and remaining within distance to further piss off the truck driver.

In my own experience - most crotch rocket riders on these "country back roads" tend to think they own the road and pass whoever they want whenever they want without any regards to the LAWS of the road.

Per operator, cars crash 15x more often than motorcycles. Even if you account for winter making it impossible to ride for half of the year, that would still mean cars are 7x more likely to crash. Motorcycles are the last thing you should be worrying about. There's a reason motorcycle insurance is dirt cheap - people riding bikes very rarely crash into things.

In my province, passing on a double yellow line is allowed, but not advisable. I believe the way it works is that you're free to pass, but if there is an accident you're automatically at fault.

In this case, they passed with a clear view of what was ahead, and the truck had no reason to move over (wasn't avoiding anything, no turn offs, etc). While it could be said that the motorcyclists did "break the law", it would undoubtedly be decided that they didn't pass recklessly.

In either case, it doesn't matter because that is NO justification for the truck driver to try and push him off the road.

I wonder what the opinions here would have been if the truck driver had instead pulled out a gun and started shooting, as that's pretty much the equivalent of trying to hit someone with a vehicle.

So what? I'm curious why this bothers cagers so much. You are driving in excrutiatingly slow vehicles that we can get around quickly and easily. Give me one good reason why you shouldn't let us pass?

When I'm in the cage on country roads and a motorcyclist comes up behind me I will pull over and let them by whenever I can. Many people do this in California. I don't see why you fuckwads can't just show us some common courtesy and let us by? And don't give me the bullshit, it's the LAW argument. You aren't a cop and enforcing traffic laws is not something you should be concerning yourself with.

"Cagers" comical. That is a real good way to win an argument. Here in Amish country I am forced to pass quite a few very slow vehicles. I *refuse* to pass automobiles on back roads because I just don't know what will come up on country roads.

Why can't you reciprocate and show common courtesy by not scaring the piss out of people on the roads... or alternately not buzz around at 2am waking my ass up which makes me OH SO civil to the next crotch rocket I see.

😛 I thought that would get someone good a riled up.

I don't ride at 2AM and I am courteous but if you refuse to let me past I WILL pass you when I get the chance. Deal with it.

My opinion would be pretty much what it is now. Someone else doing something extremely stupid doesn't automatically excuse you from something stupid that you did. There are no "sides" here, it really is possible for everyone to have done something wrong.

The way you guys are taking this is silly "Oh, you said the motorcyclists did something wrong!!!! How dare you side with the Truck driver!" Most are not trying to defend the truck drivers actions, they are inexcusable.

Yeah. Why is it that some people take being passed as such a personal insult? You are going slower than me, therefore I will pass you. It's not really that difficult to understand, especially if the person in front is going below the speed limit. Even on a double solid while illegal in most circumstances is perfectly fine with me as long as the roadway is clear. I have seen passing lanes that go around corners, and over blind crests. I'd rather pass on a double solid in a straight line where I can see the roadway is clear.

I don't believe that the situation here was clear enough. It has nothing to do (for me) with a pride issue, it has everything to do with the fact that by passing on a double solid you are taking a risk that is not only endangering yourself, but others as well.

Well we could see from the video that the roadway was clear, so unless they were going a lot faster than what they claim they really weren't posing a risk to anyone. And if the truck driver is out trying to serve "road justice" than he is doing a bad job, because he was creating a lot more danger than the bikers ever were.

People take personal offense to getting passed. I've never seen someone swerve like that, but I have had cars speed up when I'm trying to pass them on a two lane road. In fact, it's happened so frequently that I now rely on a technique to execute these passes

1. drop back 50-70 yards
2. when the other side of the road is about to be clear accelerate 10-15 mph
3. once I'm close to his bumper, make a go/no-go decision
4. If I go, floor the gas and pass him as quickly as possible

This puts me in the oncoming lane for just a few seconds and since I'm already 15-20 mph faster than him as I pass him, he can't accelerate fast enough to put me in a dangerous position.

Where did I state that what the truck driver did wasn't way more dangerous than what the motorcyclist did? I completely agree with you guys on that point, the truck drive was reckless, stupid, dangerous, and a general menace that deserves to be locked up. I've never said anything to the contrary.

Happens all the time, yeah. Although what WILL piss me off is if someone is hauling ass (I couldn't care less about this), comes right up on my bumper, and proceeds to tailgate me when it's impossible for me to move over and allow a pass. That's something else I'd classify as a douchebag move, and motorcyclists are fairly notorious for doing it (this coming from a person who has, in the past, not owned a car and instead ridden year-round).

It's quite possible to pass someone without being a jackass about it, just as people being passed need to realize that in general, it's pretty stupid to think of the action as being some sort of personal insult against you.

In NC on a two lane road like that, you are supposed to honk your horn to signal the driver in front that you are going to pass him. He is then legally obligated to help you make the pass safely.

The horn signal places the driver of the vehicle
you are passing under a legal obligation to help
you pass.

Yeah not saying the truck driver was right, but I can at least understand it.
