I'm going to take this news with a grain of salt until I get confirmation from the US Geological Survey that there was a nuclear detonation. It could just be North Korea attention-whoring again.
North Korean missiles can obviously reach Japan and South Korea without difficulty, they can get to Alaska, and within a few years, Hawaii and and the Northwest will be in range. I don't know how accurate those missiles are, though.
War with North Korea would not be pretty. If you think that losing one soldier per day in Iraq is bad, think about what it would be like to lose an entire carrier battle group.
