hey, cool thread.

Dragon Warrior and the FF series was on the NES wasn't it? or was it SNES? man i can't even remember. i put countless hours into those, and i still think of them as some of my favourite RPGs ever.

i too was a Sega kid though... had the SMS and about 20 cartridges. i even used to get the Sega Master System newsletter. when that big brown manilla envelope showed up in the mail, i would immediately retire to my room and shut out the rest of the world to read every single word in that sucker. man, great times. :)

Yep, NES. I got my copy of Dragon Warrior for re-subscribing to Nintendo Power in 1990, I think. I actually signed up when it was still the Nintendo Fun Club, but only long enough to get one or two issues before it turned into Nintendo Power. I finally dumped all my issues when I moved in 1999--but I kept the Final Fantasy strategy guide :)
:) i fought tooth & nail to keep all my old video gaming magazines. you wouldn't believe the stack i have in the basement. some old issues of Compute!'s Gazette and stuff too... lots of Gamepros and ancient PC Gamers. hilarious! i should find some funny stuff and scan some pics up some time. could be fun for nostaligia's sake. :)

Nintendo released the NES in two different bundles: one at $249 with the R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) unit, two controllers, a lightgun, Gyromite (a R.O.B. game), Duck Hunt, and Super Mario Bros., and the other set at $199 with controllers and Super Mario Bros.

"What cost $249 in 1985 would cost $441.89 in 2005."
"What cost $199 in 1985 would cost $353.16 in 2005."

anyone remember the 2nd, curvy version of the NES that didn't have that weird cartridge loading system?

I have one. Works great. The controllers are much more comfortable too. They are a lot like the SNES controllers. I used to be a big collector, but I sold off most of my games. Still have about 50 or so. Mostly only play Tetris.

I had the NES Max, that was pretty comfy to use as well :p
I sold someone my NES Advantage so I could buy Metroid 2, though.

Yup, I have one at home! I've got 5-tier stands on both sides of my TV. One side has NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Xbox and Intellivision, with GB color, GBA and Atari Lynx perched at the top. The other side has Sega Master System, Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis CDX (Genesis and Sega CD all in one :), PS2, Sega game gear, Dreamcast and a slew of VMU's. There's something else sitting next to the CDX, but I can't remember what it is right now for the life of me ;)

ATOT demands pics of your console shrine. Appease ATOT or your NES will be afflicted with the dreaded hex of the blinking screen.

I replaced the connector peice that the catridges plug in to. The piece itself was maybe like 13-15 dollars with shipping. It was real easy to replace. With that new connector in the system, it makes playing games less of a hassle.

I mean yeah, you migh have to wiggle the game around a bit to find the sweet spot so it would load up, but it a lot easy. With the new peice it takes me less then 2 minutes for me to load up a game.

ATOT is temporarily placated... but if ATOT is displeased, the consequences shall be most dire.

LOL. Don't worry, I think you'll be suitably impressed. I'll fire up the original Zelda on my 61" HDTV and shake down a couple snapshots from that :)

there was also a funky floppy based addon from asia... cartridge piracy.. course there was a legit one too.

and yes theres a clone now. 50 bucks is reasonable i guess. clone cartridges don't exist though. i'm not sure which parts went bad when things went faulty... the contacts in the console or on the cartridge.

oh man.. I loved the NES Max pad! That was sorta like an analog pad in a way..kinda. I remember the first game I played with the NES Max was R.C. ProAm (great game!!). I found the Max pad to be superior to the original pad.
