Anyone remember ROB? Hahah that thing was so lame. My dad paid extra for the deluxe set with ROB. Never really used him for much.. ended taking him apart and couldn't put it back together. The gyro spinner was great though.. those things spun for a long time.

I think when I was a kid I only ever ran across one person who had one. We played Gyromite. It was kinda cool.
I also knew one kid who had Arkanoid with the special controller. That was really cool.

Where did you grow up nakedfrog? When I was a young lad, everyone I know had one, we only had 2 decisions to make after school, whose house and what game! Those were the days! :(

Agreed. Those were the times. I used ot walk like 3 miles to my friend's house to play Nintendo.

(barefoot, in the winter with blistering winds, uphill both ways :p)

uphill both ways?? how is that possible

I still have mine too, but it was neglected in the garage, fell out of it's box without anybody noticing, and was run over... :(

Damage is realitivly minor, but I don't know if it still works.

We played in the park after school. Dad didn't buy one until '88 I think. Even at that, I couldn't beat anything. Dad was the one filling in the Zelda map & rescuing the princess over & over.

rofl my dad always teased me if i finished my hw yet, and he'd play, beating mario bro's over and over, and duck tales over and over. he beat them before i did, and he found all the secrets from both games before i did GRRR lol.

Too bad I got my nintendo jacked from a stupid home robbery. They broke into the house w/ guns while we were having dinner inside the house, ducktaped all of us. freaking. I forgot the jail term those punks served, but I believe they were released recently. I was 9 back then when it happened heh. (24 now)

Amazing isn't it? Sometimes when some kid talks about some games I just date myself big time. Some kid was talking about Ninja Gaiden Black for the xbox and I was talking about how the original NG on the NES was a pain with those reappearing enemies (NG fans know what I'm talking about) and how it was a great game back in 1988... BACK IN 1988...man.. time flies. I was but a young teen then (12 years old). <sigh>

You know, all this terrific reverie for the NES makes me wonder...they just might have a huge market for Revolution, after all :)

and to think I still actually play it from time to time. Old nintendo consoles were awesome. The SNES is the best console of all time!

hehe... I was also a Master System owner and my bro had the NES.. so of course the whole "Sega vs Nintendo" arguments insued.. then of course it escalated when I bought the Sega Genesis and my bro bought the Super NES. ahh...those were the days.

Who could forget blowing air to get dust out of NES games that never worked? Everyone had some technique to get games to work like using cotton swabs with a touch of alcohol, blowing the carts with your breath with the cart under your shirt...etc.

Remember also when the game had a battery backup (like Zelda) you had to hold reset then press power or else your game may not save properly?? crazy...

Ahh, yeah, I remember those days. As kids we get into the "Sega vs. NES" verbal jousts and I always get to say, "Well, my system can handle TWO types of games." because I thought at the time the card slot for the Sega was the coolest thing on Earth.

hey, cool thread.

Dragon Warrior and the FF series was on the NES wasn't it? or was it SNES? man i can't even remember. i put countless hours into those, and i still think of them as some of my favourite RPGs ever.

i too was a Sega kid though... had the SMS and about 20 cartridges. i even used to get the Sega Master System newsletter. when that big brown manilla envelope showed up in the mail, i would immediately retire to my room and shut out the rest of the world to read every single word in that sucker. man, great times. :)

Both DW and FF started on the NES. I think there were 4 or 5 Dragon Warrior (Quest) games on the NES and 3 Final Fantasy games (of which only the first was in english) on the NES.

I had a hard time getting into both after playing through Phantasy Star on the Master System which I thought blew those games away especially graphically.

Phantasy Star was amazing. I actually still have Phantasy Star 3 for the Genesis, it works perfectly and still even saves my games. heheh
I've got a season of NHL 96 going too. :)
We lost the SMS in a fire though... :(
I'll never forget making it to the boss in My Hero on the SMS... i thought that sunset in the background was the most beautiful image i had ever seen in a video game. sigh, the memories.

Yep, NES. I got my copy of Dragon Warrior for re-subscribing to Nintendo Power in 1990, I think. I actually signed up when it was still the Nintendo Fun Club, but only long enough to get one or two issues before it turned into Nintendo Power. I finally dumped all my issues when I moved in 1999--but I kept the Final Fantasy strategy guide :)
