Nine Inch Nails - Hurt

So, I was just listening to the radio at work, and I realize that I recognize these lyrics.

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real

And it's an older guy singing it, more "countryish" than Trent Reznor. I look it up... and it's Johnny Cash.

NIN did a cover of a Johnny Cash song? Whoda thunk it.

Other way around

Edit : Johnny also sang a song by Glen Danzing from Samhain, Misfits, Danzig fame.

Cash also covered SoundGarden's Rusty Cage
All the Johnny Cash versions in my opinion are better than the originals

I'd say I like the NIN version of "Hurt" better, minus the weird stuff Trent puts before and after the actual lyrics.

hehe...yeah...he tends to go a little overboard with his songs

oh wow, stop posting.

i wish cash hadn't ruined basically every song he ever covered by modern rockers, especially that one. (good idea making it a religious reference cash  )

I like the Johnny Cash version a lot better than the original. I can't stand NIN though. 😛

The video is incredible, I'll admit I started tearing up when I first saw it. 😱

Some of you guys that say Cash's version is better then NIN's. I dunno, I doubt you've even heard the NIN version if you actually believe that. Insane. Cover's are never better then the originals, never. Esp in this case.

And this isn't going against Cash, I love his early work. This "cover" album just wasn't up to his caliber, of course his age was probably the main contributing factor. And his version of Hurt is the worst on the album.

I've heard the NIN version and I think Trent is a whiny lil bitch lol. And wtf are you talking about covers are never better than the original, especially in this case. 😕

Idiot. Respect your elders. Johnny Cash had more influence than any modern rocker.

Who cares? His covers suck. I don't care if it's bleeding Bob Dylan, you cannot change the meaning of a song and make it worse and expect to get respect just because you had a career years and years ago. I don't mind Johnny Cash's music, his earlier work, but the covers are outright hilarious.
