Im a younger guy and I dont really swear very often at all. I mean I say sh1t and damn but I dont even say that stuff very often. I aslo dont see people swearing constantly around here either (must be cause of my location).
Heh heh.. I was surveying with another guy from my office in a middle school compound. The other guy has the habit of saying c()cks*cker everytime something goes wrong. He actually tried not to swear that day. That was pretty amazing.
Had he used his usual language, I was all prepared to ask him to stop swearing, coz we were in a fvcking school..

No kidding. I occasionally have the pleasure of walking the halls of several schools, and I have noticed that kids today do not care if an adult is around or not. When I was in school (ok, I am only 32), you would not hear a "hell" out of me if an adult was in sight.

Social norms are the fabric that holds society together. You'll quickly find that out when your inability to follow them relegates you to a trailer park.
BTW, what would you have said if they had been yelling out racial insults? Would those be insulting enough for you?
Social "norms" are archaic and an overly simplistic rulebook from which to live your life. Whether or not someone follows them is an absurd way to judge their mental fortitude. "He uses a word i dont like, therefore he must be stupid/low-class/trailer trash." Trust me, with that set of ideals, youre much closer to that which you deride than is the target of your remarks.
If someone uses racial insults, so what? It's still just words. Theyre not running around hanging people. If simple sounds are so offensive to you, you either need therapy, or at the least, a couple shots of some hard liquor.

When i type the word "fvck", your mind doesnt read it as "ph-vee-ck." It reads it as "ph-uh-ck." Regardless of how its spelled, your mind interprets it as the same word.
Ornery typing "F$%^ing" is no different. Are you honestly trying to tell me that seeing "F***ing" left any ambiguity in your mind as to what the masked word was? That your mind didnt instantly fill in the missing letters?
The whole point of masking a word is to let everyone know what word you want to use without using it. So, by all accounts, it shouldnt be treated any differently than actually saying the word. Ornery is just a small, hypocritical, ignorant person. And so is anyone who actually agrees with his twisted logic, aircooled.

Business is different. Certain mannerisms are simply expected. Just as when writing a scholarly paper, a certain level of language is expected. I'm sure you dont always enjoy dressing up in a suit, but sometimes its simply required. Yet when that when the occassion for that suit is over, you take it off.
Society does have its social norms, but that doesnt make them logical or correct. Its people like you who perpetuate the bizarre standards in which we are forced to live.

Blowing smoke in someones face causes a physical, uncontrollable reaction. Smoke and your respiratory system simply dont go together.
Speaking a certain word causes no physical reaction. It doesnt cause you to cough, or convulse, or start bleeding from the ears. The only reaction it does cause is a psychological one. And that reaction is a direct result of your parents raising you to believe that certain words are simply "bad," for no legitimate reason.
Language evolves; societies "norms" evolve. Your statement of "...rude rice boys and their pierced sluts" is the same hypocrtical type of thing that your parents probably said of your generation. And their parents, and theirs. On it goes, the previous generation always confident that society is turning into more and more of a cesspool, and that things were better back in "their day."
It's blind ignorance - there's no other term to describe it.
