Morning hockey is a travesty. It's not even noon here on the west coast. How am I supposed to drink beer and not feel bad about it? I just finished my coffee.

No suspension for McGinn. Not surprised as it wasn't an intentionally dirty hit. He got a bit lucky though because this is his second 5 minute major and a game in the playoffs. If you get two, you are automatically suspended for 1 game, but the penalties have to be for either boarding or hitting from behind. He got a 5 and a game in the LA series but it was for charging so it for some reason doesn't apply.

I still don't agree.

The Canuck D man was oblivious to his surroundings, skating as if he was at the park on a sunday. That's not McGinn's fault.

MicGinn did NOT come from behind.

So the Torres hit on Seabrook was okay?

And the rules clearly state that it is McGinn's fault. If the other player is in a vulnerable position, you have to avoid the hit.

He doesn't have to come in from behind, at best it's a boarding call or a cross check.

What he did was put a guy head into the boards.

How was the Van D man vulnerable? He was skating normally, just not paying attention to his surroundings. That's what gets you killed in hockey.

The Seabrook hit got a minor penalty. If anything that's what was called for here.

What about Patrick Kane getting his head slammed into the boards so hard it drew blood, and the refs chuckling about it?

Read the rule book. It's textbook boarding. The severity is up to the referee's discretion. Considering his head was hit by McGinn's shoulder, and his head also hit the glass hard, possibly knocking him out, a major is not out of the question.

Meh, it was a borderline major. And he hit him in the back with his shoulder (no, not his head), which whiplashed his face into the boards. Happens all the time, except the difference is that people that are doing the hitting are not as BIG as McGinn. I only think it was a major because Rome was left a quivering mess, if he was fine it may not have even been a minor.

See 1:08 for the angle.

Didn't see the game but wow, Tampa with the comeback. Boston may be having flashbacks of blowing 3-0 leads from last year. Gagne's goal was purty.

I already posted this which shows shoulder on head.

Again, read the rulebook. Any hit that causes a player to go violently into the boards is boarding. It is up to the discretion of the referee as to the severity of the penalty. It is up to the player hitting to avoid contact if the player being hit is vulnerable.

Pic isn't showing for some reason, in any case rewatch the youtube video at 1:08 and show me where Rome's head was hit at all. It's clear to anyone watching the replay, his head wasn't hit at all. It was shoulder to back.

I agree with you that it was boarding, I just don't think it was a major. Of course, if it was Marty St. Louis or Gionta (someone small), that isn't even boarding but a regular hockey hit. Too bad for McGinn that Rome has a glass jaw (especially considering Rome is actually the same height/weight).
