So assuming Atlanta moves to Winnipeg, how much would Buttman jizz in his pants at the opportunity to put Pittsburgh and Washington in the same division?

Are you saying they would swap Pittsburgh and Atlanta? That would piss me off. I like the division just the way it is.

It'd definitely heighten the rivalry, I'd be all for it. More Crosby and Ovi plz.

Fell asleep during the game last night, from what I heard TThomas stole another one. Grats to him, he is a clutch performer after stealing a game vs Montreal (44 saves) and the one in Philly (52 saves). Definitely worth of the Vezina this year.

Winnipeg would be in the western conference, so a team from the west would have to move to the eastern conference.

The three most likely candidates are Detroit, Columbus and Nashville.

Nashville and Columbus would be easy, because either could replace Atlanta in the southeast, Winnipeg goes in the northwest, then one or two of Minnesota, Colorado or Dallas would shift divisions to even them out.

Some division realignment would be required to fit Detroit into the east. Geographically (ignoring rivalries) it could be Detroit in the northeast, Boston in the Atlantic, Pittsburgh in the southeast. Detroit would probably love to play in the "easier" eastern conference and not have to travel so far.

As close at Detroit is to TO, I doubt the wanna break up the MTL/TO/Boston combination in the NE division for historical reasons.

Yeah, Buffalo would work too but would make less sense geographically. Of course moving Detroit wouldn't really be about doing what makes the most sense geographically.

Columbus makes the most sense to move over

I actually thought it would make the least sense of the three options. If you're going to put them into the southeast, Nashville makes more sense because it's closer. Putting them in the Atlantic or northeast doesn't make any sense, because one of the Atlantic teams would end up in the southeast division and none of them make more sense in the southeast than Columbus (and then you're back to Nashville being closer).

Yeah, it'd be great to see Nashville moved over to the Southeast since it will boost their record a bit and really solidify that newer franchise (if this year wasn't enough).

Toronto should be in its own division just so the team can make playoff

I was thinking about the Leafs because Boston hasn't won the Cup since 1972 (almost Leafs-like). I do want the Lightning to go all the way, but I wouldn't be too sad if Boston could end their drought.

How awesome for historical purposes would a division of Detroit, MTL, BOS, NY and Toronto be?

Because of Ottawa/TO rivalry and how close Ottawa/Buf are to Toronto it will never happen, and as a Leafs fan I don't want Detroit anywhere near our division, But it's not like the above teams aren't geographically close enough to form a division.

I would love to see that but that is not going to happen. I also want a Hamilton team just to give the Leafs some incentive to not suck.

Lets go guys

I doubt the NHL would split up the Chi-Det rivalry. It's instant sell-out everytime they play. It will be interesting to see how they adjust everything though.

It's insta-sellout in any original 6. If Det moves to the East, they would have more of theose matchups. Some people here are actually looking forward to being able to play the Pens, Caps, and Sabres (Miller is a Mich State hero) on a regular basis

I never got the big deal over two teams that were part of the first season meeting.... But the Joe is full of people with "Original 6" shirts with all the logos on those nights. Other than the Hawks or Leafs, I dont see why we should be any more fired up for a game with the Rangers than with the Preds or Stars or whoever.
