RX7 and the RX8 are monsters once fully upgraded

easiest way to get bounty is to drive on the highway around the golf course while on level 5 (just doing that loop over and over) and then using stadium pursuit-breaker to cull down the pursuit

I don't usually see them coming until it's too late.

It's hands down the best NFS game since HP2. Only complaint is I wish the AI was more realistic - i.e. not being able to cut a 10 second lead to nothing when I'm driving a perfect race. I hate that catch up stuff.

You don't hate the way cops appear/disappear, have very poor AI 9unable to do even the simplest following sometimes), the way the physics are stupidly unrealistic, or the way cars can appear going the wrong way down roads/driving off the roads (both police and civilian cars), or the way you are not allowed to even try and keep driving your car after going over a spike strip?

1º- It has a Catch up system, thats patethic. You cant make a very fast race and brake a bit more in the last corner, cos the cars running behind you have unreal speed advantages. Its the worst thing in the game.
2º- Cars have no real damage, only some windows broken, but thats all. Its unforgiveable not to have a damage model in a 2005 serious title.
3º- Physics are still far behind what was achieved by NFS Porsche, wich is still the best in the NFS series, IMHO.

So, its a mix of crap with excellent graphics which keeps me playing from time to time, just because im a racing titles fan.

You all shoud try the best racing title: Live For Speed

QFT

Absolutely best racing game/sim ever. /thread

I have been playing lfs since its origin. Try the demo out, than shell out the cash for the full s2. It is amazing. Really great racing with the fz50 on the oval for the nascar type guys. and the mini's are hilarious and tight to race with. Not to mention the tweak program allows you to complete modify the cars performance specs. Talk about 4 second qurter mile 5000 horse awd MONSTER. lol
definately worth the non-time limited demo

yeah LFS rules. im still playing with the demo. A good steering wheel would probably help alot though but I got good with the mouse. this is one of the few racing games i would pay for along with trackmania sunrise and f-zero gx.

I definately reccomend buying it. I have the logitech driving force pro and use a second set of pedals for clutch and e-brake. F'n amazing. (900 degrees rotation is hard as hell to counter with). The other grea thing about LFS is how it is developed. The community plays a huge part in it. It started on RSCnet then moved over to linky

I got my left-side tires busted and I was still able to drive (rather slowly)... I think if all 4 are gone, then it's trying to move but you're not going anywhere... at least that's the thought behind it seeing that driving with 2 was so slow as it was... really pointless.

BTW, there's only one thing I've witnessed civilian cars do that's "wrong"... at one of the areas just out of a tunnel there's a peak in the road and all you see are civy cars getting air as they drive at regular speeds over it... kinda funny to see.

I sorta like this game, its the only PC racer to have graphics almost as good as the console best (PGR3) and it has a good list of cars. However while the tracks are good there still is nothing to stretch your legs on (even the biggest ricer game; Tokyo Extream Racer, had a proper test track and miles of highway straightaways). I'm sick of this "hairpin turns on 8 lane freeways" BS that plagues the NFS series. I also hate feeling like I'm constantly in a James Bond stlye chase scene. I'm very good at this game(as good as someone with a keyboard can be) and the past Underground games, but I get sick of constantly feeling like if the paint was any thicker on my car I would not be able to go thru a track faster than 35mph.

The graphics are really good for a pc racer like I said before, but still they could have don't alot better on the car poly count. The engine sounds are rather bland and somewhat unrealistic. The ingame Carrera GT sounds exactly like my RL car's supercharger whine, and dosent have that incredible howl of the real thing(yes I've heard them in person).

In the UK we have "stingers" and basically the police shoot them across the road as the car being chased comes along, and then they really quickly retradt them before the police chasing get there.
Now it doesn't *show* than in NFS, but it's a plausible reason why the police can apparently drive over the strips, it's just easier in game to show them as there all the time.

Although when the strips remain on the road after the block has gone (does happen sometimes) and the police can still drive over them, well then it's annoying.

As far as civvy cars driving in odd places, there's a twisty bit with the little off road shortcut bits that go slightly inside the line of the road, and I have twice met civilian cars driving down the offf road bits.

YAY!!! Another Brit calling them Stingers.... I thought I was the only 1 :p

I got quite excited that EA had thought of including Stingers, albeit calling them spike strips..... I was rather disappointed that..

1) They dont phase police cars.
2) They arent deployed and retracted fast like the Police here use them.
3) They are very obvious in the road and dont look very good.
4) Police bash into Spike Blocks the same way as Road Blocks...

Stingers are dangerous as a means to stop a speeding car. Many officers have died trying to use them to stop vehicles and there is currently some heavy training going on with the used of them. It isn't so much the stingers themselves as the vehicle trying to evade them.

I just noticed the demo was available on Xbox Live Marketplace last night. I'm going to download it tonight and give it a try.

So how do you guys that are really good at the game play it? What kind of controls do you use, are you using an actual wheel or a game pad or joystick? I've been playing the demo and I've gotten a little better at it after learning the tracks a little bit but I'm still not all that good at it. I'm using a gamepad with dual analog thumb joysticks on it... the right one controlls the accelerator/brake and the left steers the car. I think the demo is a lot of fun... lets you play quite a bit actually for a demo. I don't know if I'll get the actual game or not yet... just curious how you guys play it so well because I don't feel like I have very good control of the car, but it may just be that I need more practice.

The way I was able to beat the game and the most difficult races is with a racing wheel. I could never beat the game with a gamepad or keyboard, there just is not enough control for me. Also, driving comes natural with a wheel and the car behaves much like a real car would. I used the Logitech Force Feedback wheel and have had it for over 3 years and still wouldn't trade it for anything! Still a great build quality.

Just to give you an idea, when NFS:HP2 came out, I tried it with a game pad and couldn't get past the first few levels, I setup my Logitech Wheel and beat the entire game in less than 1 week with everything unlocked (no cheats or anything) and uploaded my profile to a Euro NFS site. I think it is still there to this day, ArchAngel777 Profile and it has been downloaded and used several times. The Wheel makes the game some great fun and I wouldn't play a racing game without it.

Absolutely agree :)
Try Live For Speed if you wanna go from the SP to the Tracks too.

guys, it's not always about "realism" in a game. Is Quake 3, UT2004, WoW "realistic"? No, but people still love to play those games.

well, its just a point of view...
IMHO, When you buy Live For Speed S2 License and join a MP session and you race, you feel like you are racing in REAL life, and thats something really worth to do!
even here in Latin america we have a LFS portal ( www.lfsla.net ), in which we organize championships and rules are just as in real life. Its a superior feeling...

Its just an opinion, i didnt say NFS is a horrible game and you shouldnt play it. i just made a point of view. Someones like NFS, someones like LFS... thats it and I love it.

After playing the demo I was convinced that this is a really awesome game but I was upset that they don't have the realistsic damage and physics like in NFS Porsche, that game was the best!

I am planning on NFS MW soon but I have a few questions first:
1) Can you own multiple cars?
2) Are the tracks as repetitive as in NFS Underground where you race in the same city throughout the whole game?
3) How many races are there to complete in the Underground mode and are they about the same difficulty level as in NFS Underground?

Is it just me, or is it hard to keep your car going in a straight line in this game? It seems to me it always wants to wander to one direction or the other. I'm playing it with an XBox360 gamepad (on a PC), and the control is terrible.

I agree of sorts. The car drives in a straight line but straightening it up with the road, trying to drive along a straight line on the road.

I find myself constantly correcting my driving (using the keyboard, not a gamepad or wheel).

Beating the game with on a keypad is not difficult, well once you get up to speed. The developers did not correctly assume that that people using (auto trans) were most likely on keyboards and didnt bother to give the car any traction control. Even the weakest cars spin out like they are dragging an anchor below 30mph due to the digital (on/off) input of the keyboard, and some crappy steering wheel sets.

Does anyone know of a somewhat "quality" wheel/pedal set for less than $120~ ?

hmm, i may need to bust out my gravis gamepad pro for this game, as the keyboard isnt sufficient enough...
