Cassel is a much better QB than Painter. Would Painter have gone 11-5 in Cassel's place? No. And from another post, if it's due to the Pats system, why pay Brady so much and just grab some other QB? Sorry, someone still needs to read the D, make accurate throws, avoid the rush, etc...
No matter what the system is, you still need the right QB to execute it.

Both off to very nice starts, though both take waay too many sacks. Roethlisberger is obviously known for taking big hits, it's amazing how many yards he loses per season to sacks.
I didn't include these numbers in the "best" QB debate, but they certainly add another dimension. It's clear that Manning's ability to avoid sacks is beyond elite. He has had four seasons where he's been sacked for fewer than 100 yards. Brady (not 2007 surprisingly), Brees have each had one. Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Rivers have had zero.

I made a mistake with Rivers in computing the quality of his defense. I forgot that he hasn't been the starter full-time and that he took over in 2006. It skews the defensive numbers I put up in 06 and prior, so my apologies. I didn't intentionally mislead anyone.
Back to Rodgers / Roethlisberger. They're both good. Rodgers has been careful with the ball at a super-elite level, though that is probably also due to a small (two season) sample size. When he connects, it's for very solid yardage (again, small sample size). He takes too many sacks.
Roethlisberger turns the ball over too much, and takes too many sacks. I'm actually surprised at his numbers, considering that people have talked about him as the guy who doesn't put up flashy numbers, doesn't make mistakes, and does just enough for his team to win. What the numbers suggest is that the Steelers are deadly when he unleashes the ball, but it is a high risk / reward proposition. These mistakes by Roethlisberger are probably masked somewhat by the elite play of his defense.
Anyway, just adding a little more fuel to the proverbial fire. Right now our sample size with Rodgers is too small to start passing judgement about his place among the QBs of the league. He's had two excellent seasons. His Junior effort will say a lot about his place.

I took this year off from Fantasy Football and it's been a surprisingly relaxing experience. I get to focus much more on the game as a whole than individual players. I do notice a lack of immersion though....

I learned at an early age that I have little luck when betting so I tend to stay away from it. If I do get back into betting I'll do you a favor and tell you how I bet so you can bet the opposite way

I could never really get into FF. I do enjoy realistic football video games though, as I think they're more immersive. Last year I played in the AT Madden league and this year, in the NCAA league. Whenever I play a human opponent, I enjoy "scounting" them and determining the best ways to stop them.
