I'd rather the Jets face some adversity than just cruise through the regular season.

Obviously the Broncos were well prepared for this game, everything from the onside kick to the all the yards they picked up on the ground speaks to that.

And yet the Jets were able to win. That takes some guts. And the PI was legit. If Holmes's head isn't getting twisted like a soda cap he makes that catch.

As someone on the Jets MB put it:

1) Short week

2) West Coast game

3) High Altitude

4) Sanchez throws ball to other team

5) Officials put money on the broncos

6) Revis still not at 100%

=5-1

Yep, over last decade or so crossing the mississippi has been deadly for the team. Just look at how many times they've lost to the raiders during that time. And the jets had tide some record for most consecutive games without a turnover, and finally letting that damn burst and still win is huge. As for the broncos, take away tebows ability to move the ball by changing the attacker/defender ratio and denver still had a very subpar running game.

All in all, they are heading into their bye at 5-1 missing 6-0 by 1 point after many predicted a 2-2 if not 1-3 start, and both of their challengers for the division title needed OT this week to not fall behind by 2+ games.

I don't know how many people predicted a 2-2 or 1-3 start for the Jets. They were the sexy pick for the Super Bowl before the season started. Everyone jumped off the bandwagon when their offense was putrid in Week 1 and now everyone is back on board.

They're a great team with many fewer question marks than their division rivals. We know their defense is very good. We know their offense is proficient. And we know they can run the ball.

The Dolphins have question marks at QB and on defense, the Patriots have questions on defense and whether their offense can successfully revert to the 2001-2006 offense that was so successful.

I wouldn't put so much stock behind their division rivals needing OT to win. The Patriots played undisciplined football and racked up enough penalty yards (9 for 78 yards) and turnovers (2) against a team most consider(ed) the best in the AFC and still won.

The Dolphins survived an absolute blitzkrieg from Aaron Rodgers (18 throws for 318 yards... a blistering 9.4 ypa). Considering that, historically, the team with the higher YPA wins about 80% of the time, I'd say that all three teams got the job done in the face of extremely adversity.

I think what we've established with this weeks' games is that the AFC East is the best division in football, with three legitimate playoff teams. Out of those teams, the favored division winner should be the Jets. They've beaten the Patriots, they have a better and more established defense, and Mark Sanchez is playing at a higher level than Chad Henne right now. They are getting contributions from everyone and firing on all cylinders.

The Patriots still have questions on defense, namely is the bend-but-don't break defense that stopped the Ravens on their last four possessions going to continually make big plays or are they going to revert to the matador defense of 2009?

The Dolphins, IMO, have questions all over the board.

The team to beat is Steelers. There takeaways on D is just awesome. Big Ben looked awesome 3 TDs with long threat Wallace and of course Ward. The running game is starting to look good with Mendenhall and Redman. They have the fire of a champion this year.

I'd have to reluctantly agree at this stage. The NFL is really strange this year.

The South divisions look legit as well.

AFC south has the Colts, Texans, Titans, and even Jacksonville playing good games. But the key weakness for all these teams is defense. The Titans are have the best D between all of them but they still give up some big plays.

NFC south has the Saints, Falcons, and Tampa all playing well.

I dunno, the top 5 teams are all usual suspects except for the Jets, and the Jets made it deep into the playoffs last year so even they're not a huge surprise:

Pittsburgh
Baltimore
Jets
New England
and 5th spot is a tossup between Colts/Saints but probably the Colts.

The only thing kinda strange this year is there were no undefeated teams after week 4.

If you don't think the jets had a lot of people picking more losses than wins for the first couple weeks you need to take the time machine and watch and listen to a bunch more of the analyst coverage during the last week or so of preaseason; and don't forget at that time reavis still was a no-show.

the jets have been winning despite revis. because of his bad hammy, he's been burned quite a few time. he should be better after the bye.

I think the Steelers are the most complete team of the bunch, probably followed by the Jets. The Pats have a bad/inconsistent defense, Flacco has been too inconsistent for the Ravens, and at least in terms of the Colts, they don't have the D to go deep in the playoffs. Sure, they could pull a 2006 and suddenly become a world-class defense, but that likely won't happen.

The Saints have a better defense than the Colts, but the Colts offense is better. So they're about equal in my book.

The Jets problem in preseason was on the offense. No one has doubted their defense. And their offense was seriously bad, especially in the loss to Baltimore. However, Ryan got smart and took the training wheels off of Sanchez and he has done surprisingly well.

At any rate, coming into the season, a few thought they might lose a couple of games in the first month or two; most people were still predicting them to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, however. And frankly, I'd rather see the Jets make it than the Steelers or Pats.

rather boring game so far.

if the skins DBs could catch just a couple of the balls thrown at them it may have more excitement to it.

Just remember that's why they are DB's. DB's are just wide receivers who can't catch, generally.

If reavis was healthy then there would be no doubt that he's worth what he's being paid. I strongly suspect that if they weren't going against such a pass first, second, and third team like the broncos they would have probably kept him as a dime player if not on the bench for the game.

Currently league wide I'd say the Jets are playing as the most complete of a team with most of the other top contenders having significant flaws. Steelers are currently exempt from this list as we'll have to see how the mostly non-existant offense rebounds now with the female motivator back in charge.

Anyone else (non-partisan) think the Giants have a great shot to make the Superbowl? I "greatly dislike" the Giants, but they look kinda scary right now.

...well, I didn't see how or why they let Detroit put up 20 points, but their D the previous 2 games looks legit.

what with the dislike? eli spurning the chargers? we all know a.j smith is a douchebag. :D

detroit is also not a bad team, skill wise. once they cut down on mental mistakes, they should be competing for the division very soon. chicago and minny looks to be heading downhill next season.

no, haha. I'm only a SD fan (fucking SD! :() b/c of Rivers. I would have become a "reluctant sympathizer" for the Giants had they kept Rivers. --I'm a Redskins fan, so...fuck the Giants!

but we can mutually agree to hate the Cowboys with the combined fury of 10,000 suns.

KC is much improved as well and could be dangerous. They lost a close one yesterday. I'd take them over NE right now, mostly because I hate NE. The Steelers looked like a whole new team with Ben back. There are no real serious NFC teams up there either. Washington maybe, Packers are a disappointment and have a lot of injuries. The Bears have been lucky with the record they have--the O-line is suspect at best. Atl, maybe finish with a playoff birth. Just a weird place right now in the NFL.

Yes, I've been saying this for weeks -- the Giants are scary right now and may have turned the corner.

I will take about anyone over NE. As the old saying goes, my two favorites teams are the Colts and whoever happens to be playing New England. :D

No doubt about the cromartie signing; main reason they lost against the colts last year was the #2 corner got hurt midway through the game which then necessiated the #3 guy (who was playing fairly often given the colts offense) was now in every play and the #4 was on the field to cover #3s role.

This year they addressed it by signing cromartie and drafting another.

well outside of DC, I think a lot of NFC east fans have mostly felt pity for your organization while you were going through the Dan Snyder era. lol

but yea my hate level of the cowboys and eagles are a lot higher than that of the skins.

Giants have played exactly 1 solid game so far this year, even the dman lions with their third string QB was only 1 score from tieing at the end of the game.

I like the chiefs, was very close to picking them to win yesterday. Main problem they are going to have no is inexperience, both on the field and as winners.
