Just realized the PS4 dual shock controller is still horrid compared to the Xbox controller.

No staggered analog sticks = Fail

Mainly everything about their analog sticks feedback, location, and feel is terrible. Sony can claim all they want, but I'm sure most folks prefer the Xbox controller.

XBox 360 controller on PC still king.

I've always liked the PS controller over the XBOX one. I'm glad it's the way it is.

Glad he took the time to find the stuff so I didn't have to lol. The holy grail of pc graphics is being able to render ray tracing in real time at high enough FPS for smooth motion. That will be when we pretty much can't distinguish games from reality. Imagine that on an Occulus Rift!

The holy grail indeed. Unless it becomes the new gimmick for PC gaming it's still years away. And I don't see it featured as a task done by a traditional GPU, most prolly a very specialized part on the same die.

It is not a game, there is no gameplay, AI, etc.
It's a tech demo rendered realtime.

Order 1886 is realtime cutscene using game assets. (they say the assets are same for cutscenes and ingame.)

"Dark Sorcerer" is just a tech demo, but it's a pretty good one. It does actually rival or exceed current high end PC graphics to a higher level than the MGS5 demo did, probably because the PS4 has significantly more muscle under the hood. That said, I doubt there are any lighting effects, geometry, or tessellation presented that really exceeds what a modern PC can do. It just stands out because of the intricate motion capture work.

Will PS4's games look this good in real time with interactive enemies though? I doubt it. The graphics are mind-blowing, a full generation ahead of PC. The best PC game, Crysis 3, is a gen behind compared to the level of character detail, animations in that video. :thumbsup:

That's why I don't think even the Titan can last over PS4's useful life and cards like HD7950/GTX660Ti have no hope whatsoever. Once developers learn to use 6-7GB of PS4's memory and fully take advantage of coding to the metal for PS4's 1st party titles, current generation of cards in the $250-300 range will take a complete slideshow dump by the time we have 2016-2017 games. Trying to future proof for PS4's next gen games with current gen GPUs is for the laughs. Better start saving your money for Volta. This is especially true since developers will now make games on the PC and port them over to PS4/XB1 which means they can go all out and just turn down setting for the console versions if required. We should see a massive increase in LOD and visuals on the PC in the next 3-4 years.

The main reason it looks so good is because it removes some/all of the limitations present in console ports. Even though some games have a ton of lighting effects, textures, tesselation for the pc they never build on things such as poly counts (which you can see in many games), attention to detail, animations, etc which remain the same between the pc and the console. (This is why crysis 3 looks so similar between high and ultra despite ultra taking much more power. Processing power goes into DDOF, tessellation, and other effects rather than detail, poly counts, and general finish of the game).

I expect removing these limitations (which can really hold the game back; its like putting lipstick on a pig) will mean that games will look significantly better running on the same hardware. Sure some of the ps4/xb1 demos might look really good for the hardware but that doesn't mean that a pc can't run the pc version of the same game at the same level.

Using a tech demo as a barometer for upcoming PS4 games is ridiculous, and so is comparing it to actual real games; particularly when said games are consolized.. This has never worked for PCs, and it won't work for the PS4. By even mentioning Titan in the same breath as the PS4, you've crossed into crazy territory a la galego..

Also, VRAM capacity isn't as important as computational power or memory bandwidth when it comes to GPU performance, and there, the PS4 is outmatched by even last generation cards.

Yes, deeper access to hardware will play a very important role in squeezing the performance out of the consoles, but it can't work magic..

I think people also overestimate how much this actually helps. Some say, "look at how good they can make these current games look on the Xbox 360". And then I'm like, "well, it's not even 720p at 30fps. An 8800GTX could run the same low textures, low resolution, and low frame rate". We have PCs now running as much as over 4 times the resolution (1440p+), along with AA, much higher resolution textures, and tesselation. We already need much more powerful GPUs before even factoring overhead.

But since a 7850 is capable of running 1080p at 60fps on PC (with some reduced settings, but still very good looking), I'm really looking forward to what PS4 can do. I have one preordered from Amazon. 😀

That sorcerer video looked like a long, drawn out cut scene from a game. Was there any gameplay? That looked amazing BTW. So, what happened to the new consoles having garbage GPUs and crappy hardware? I thought they were garbage prior to release? Or perhaps there was plenty of contempt prior to investigation going on.

That looks cool. But if you think about possibilities of PVP and ganking... People sometimes are assholes and they will do everything to lessen others experience.
I guess there will be non-pvp servers or whatever

Someone hasn't looked at Skyrim+mods lately...

And those are all pretty tame compared to what some people have running now. Unfortunately I don't have it bookmarked on this PC, but there is one guy who has a custom grass and trees and wind mod which looks amazing (but you really need a HIGH end PC for it, meaning quad SLI, but when you factor in the number of polygons, you will understand why).

True but just remember how much trouble they had with the first ps3 ports.

This gen they already have an architecture they are very familiar with and the tools (drivers, API (dx 11), etc) are in much better shape than with last gen.

Crysis 3 looks better with CVar.

Crysis 3 is also rendering 2-3 times more area, but I think you know that.


But I agree, it looks great, if you want that, buy a PC because the PS4 will never deliver that in a real game.
