Gingrich shut down Government, rather than give up his principles.

And won.

Nuff said.

I must admit, that it is scary that Obama wins 2-1 on ATPN.

semi-tech geek forum? Not surprised at all given the demographic that hangs out here. P&N been a heavy leftist forum ever since it was given it's own subforum. Many of those on the right have left, been banned, or just stay out of here due to a multitude of reasons. I am surprised it isn't even more slanted towards BHO given it was Newt vs BHO.

Eh, there are still a bunch of left leaning homers on this site. I do think there are more conservative posters now than a year or two ago, but there hasn't been a big shift of the overall mix of this forum.

As for Obama's middle name - the usual idiots will be back to doing that as soon as the R's have a candidate in hand.

Eh, Newt seems the best out of all the GOP. He can actually speak in specifics and not just random cliches and surface level terms. Watching Bachmann talk is hilarious.

This was my view until he said he wanted to expand the patriot act.

Personally, I was rather fond of the humor used to create the line:

Obama-n-Biden....Osama-bin-Laden

When you say them both fast they sorta sound alike. I thought it was witty at least. :)

Out of curiousity, what does your avatar say? My Hebrew vocabulary is rather lacking.

I don't think you know what "left" is. I suspect that most people are probably middle of the road, and maybe more libertarian then anything else. If anything, I see more hard-right (as in crazy right) trolls then hard-left trolls. I don't even think we really have far-left posters. Plus a large amount of pure authoritarians, but that disregards left/right ideas, since either political side can be that.

Obama isn't my #1 all-time favorite President, but he's better than the last, and better than all the Republicans other than facing stiff competition (at least in his stance on war) from Ron Paul. Newt is a scumbag.
All (realistic) things considered, we better stick with President Obama.

I consider myself hard-left.. not a pinko but a diehard socialist, and a red in most cases. It's really too ambiguous anymore to define everything as "left" and "right", I certainly agree with most right-wing people unless they are the diehard "government is the root of all problems" (non-thinking) type.

I'm really not sure what people think is so "left" or "liberal" about Obama, or any mainstream Democrat.

He hasn't raised taxes (Reagan, the god of the GOP, did several times, and taxes for the rich were higher under Reagan)

He didn't nationalize the banks, he kept going with bailing them out - a real socialist would have taken them over. Certainly not a liberal act

He continued indefinite detentions, PATRIOT act, stepped up drone strikes all over killing thousands, assassinated a US citizen - none of those are liberal

Obamacare - Hell, that was a copy of the GOP healthcare proposal from 15 years ago. Certainly not liberal, if the GOP thought it up

Just what is so left/liberal about him? Is he "more left" then the current GOP? Yes, but that doesn't make him left. Just like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are both rich, and Bill G is POORER then Buffett, doesn't make Bill G POOR.

Obama is probably a little to the right of center. But the GOP has moved so far out to the far right, in their minds, everyone that isn't as rich as Buffett is poor. But that doesn't mean it's right. Even Bachmann (LOL) called Newt a liberal. Doesn't even make sense, but I guess 30% just believes it blindly

Better than the last? He has basically done all the stuff the left hated about Bush while effectively doing nothing the left wanted him to do.

How can you say he is better when he is actually more of the same?

Obama's policies in regards to foreign affairs and the economy have been anything but "leftist". 10 years ago he'd be a Republican's wet dream.

A matter of opinion. In my view he wasn't fit to mow Reagan's lawn.

I lived through Carter, he was good man and very bad POTUS.

I've got to agree, Carter would be a good friend and neighbor, but he was a lousy president.

If this was the case, Bush and Cheney would already be on trial for war crimes.

Cheney already doesn't goto alot of places overseas because they'll arrest him.

"alot of places"? If by "alot of places" you mean Nigeria then youre correct. And that isnt for war crimes. Otherwise it looks like you two have been drinking too much (whatever the left's version of Fox is...commondreams maybe?) kool aid.

Perhaps you can tell us what countries currently have arrest warrants for him for war crimes and back it up with some links?

Pure comedic gold in this thread!

edit: to answer the OP, neither. If I had to pick one of the two, then Newt.

Not really, and really not in comparison to the Republicans who followed since.

Tell me about election corruption, lobbying, national debt, bad wars under each.
