His last X post. This guy is really weird. My hunch is he's going to enjoy the showers a lot more than he lets on.

Well, darlings…The curtain falls, the spotlight dims, and the rhinestones are packed. From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it’s been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days. To my supporters: You made this wild political cabaret worth it. To my critics: Thanks for the free press. I may be leaving the stage (for now), but trust me legends never truly exit. Forever fabulously yours, George

He is indeed stupendously weird. I very nearly feel sorry for him (regarding the prison sentence). The US justice system seems pretty damn harsh in general, but it seems like a dilemma, what you do with someone whose crime may have been non-violent, but who is seemingly incorrigibly dishonest (albeit in an entertaining kind of way)?

Maybe a sentence of life-long probation and close supervision, plus compulsory psychotherapy would be more appropriate - but it would be expensive to make that a part of the legal system on a consistent basis.

My guess is that he sees the world as himself, and things to be used for his own enrichment/enjoyment.
He'll get parole in 2 or 3 years and almost certainly go right back to being a criminal.

Sounds like some other politician we know…..
I assume you mean the one that was elected President of the United States? It appears to me that he's a little smarter because instead of going to jail he became the leader of the free world. What's even stranger is that he did that by not being Joe Biden or Kamala Harris.
Reality is far stranger than fiction.

I think it’s just that he’s sicker in a more popular way, not just vainglorious but far more cruel as well.

Yea that's right. It's everybody else's fault that you had to vote Trump. As bad as Trump is Kamala is just so much worse.

Bad dems forcing your hand like that.

And you're bitching about people calling you a bitch. That is like First Ballot Hall Of Fame Bitch. Bitchman is your name.
No one cares for your victimhood no matter how much you bitch about it.

Look at you out here pretending to be a real boy. And fall short.

His Internet History has likely been filling with Prison Porn. Hoping for a silver lining...

And MTG has already written asking the office of the President to commute his sentence because, well, crimes committed as part of an election campaign are apparently supposed to be treated much more leniently than the same thing committed any other time. Don't know about the rest of you, but I was certainly unaware of that proviso.

Smarter? Hardly, he was only in that position because his cronies in Congress were willing to let him skate for crimes they knew he committed, just as you've decided you don't care about all the crimes he's committed.

I keep expecting (and maybe secretly hoping) that he either gets shanked in prison…or is given a “flying lesson” off the top tier.

Seems a bit meaningless arguing over who is and isn't 'smart'. Intelligence has very little to do with any of it.

It's more a matter of luck of being born into the right demographic, with the right parents, the right ethnicity, social class, etc, to fit the society and era.

Arguably Trump _and_ Adolf had a certain kind of instinctive cunning. Also, a lack of moral scruple is a huge advantage. I mean, if you think of it as a kind of job market (for criminals, despots, and grifters) it surely is the same as any other market? It's about rationally judging the costs-and-benefits and out-competing everyone else in that market.

And if you are in a labour market where a lot of the potential competition hugely handicap themselves by having moral scruples, you are going to have a big advantage if you don't care about such stuff. Which is I suppose just a long-winded way of repeating the observation that sociopaths often rise to the top.

At that time, Mr. Trump, who has doled out pardons or clemency to staunch supporters and others favored by his right-wing base, did not rule out offering a pardon to Mr. Santos, saying in an interview in Newsmax that he had not yet been asked.

“Nobody’s talked to me about it,” Mr. Trump he said at the time. But after acknowledging Mr. Santos’s reputation for falsehoods, the president commended their shared political ideology.

He has waved far larger amounts in restitution in other commutations. Just proof that Trump doesn’t give one shit about the people who vote for him.
Victims should be allowed to sue the federal government for the restitution they where to receive. I know that it would be the tax payers paying for it. But maybe, if that could happen, it would create enough negativity towards the president and it's party to not do it.

Edit: who am I kidding.. the MAGA crowd doesn't give a shit.
