Newegg now charges tax in NJ

Virtually every other person on the east coast, except those in NJ, are going to like having Newegg closer. That being said, Newegg uses Fed-Ex super saver and this is rarely as slow as UPS ground, which can be agonizingly slow from coast to coast.

BTW, I get screwed with taxes from Amazon.com because I live in WA.

That sucks. I live in NJ. But I have found ZipZoomFly? (googlegear) better anyway. Oh well won't be ordering from NewEgg anymore.

Umm, don't be blaming New Egg for this. Its not like they are "charging" this tax and keeping it, they are COLLECTING tax for the state. And dont fear kids, sooner than we'd all like to admit we'll be paying a sales tax on ALL internet goods....

Reminds me of a neat sticker I saw at a gun show......"I don't charge sales tax, i COLLECT it"

Man, I'm very close to edison. I ask again, does newegg allow you to pick orders up in person from their warehouse?

if Newegg was smart, they would have separated the two stores & called the new one NewJegg or NJewegg, to allow Kalifornians to order from NJ tax-free, and NJ to order tax-free from Kalif.

Wouldn't shipping costs be increased by doing that? And also at the sametime pissing off the customers by slow shipping. I mean it will take probably more than 3 days if you ship from east to west coast vice versa, by ground.

AHEM...at the risk of getting flamed...the way most sales tax is supposed to work is that you are expected to pay the tax that would have been charged as if the item was bought locally. Of course, since there is virtually no way to track out of state internet purchases, this is essentially unenforceable. NEWEGG is only collecting sales tax that it is legally responsible for collecting...ie states where it has a business presence.

Supposedly with the rise in out of state internet purchases to circumvent sales tax and the general trend towards loss of privacy...its only a matter of time until the government (franchise tax board) figure out a way to collect their due from the so called tax cheats

They have been charging tax in NJ since 9/4/2003.
(My order on 9/3, no tax. on 9/4 Tax 6%)

RMA dept still in CA.

Too bad about Newegg...

Man, you guys are lucky... I can't believe you guys are whining about 6%. Newegg tax if you live in California is 8.25% of Los Angeles and Santa Clara counties.

BigdaddyF is correct. Anyone living here in VA (and PA, MD, WV, NC, FL, and many other states) should be paying their "consumer's use tax" on out-of-state Internet purchases anyway. You're all paying that every year with your state income tax, right? 😀

I live in Mississippi and I've noticed that everything shipped from NJ actually takes longer to get to me than what they ship from CA. Thankfully I don't have the sales tax issue either way, however. At least for now since we all know the government is trying its best to make us all pay regardless of what state we live in

Yeah, I work pretty close to Ediason as well, would be nice if I could stop there on way home to pick up my stuff 🙂
