Awesome. Can't wait to see what some other owners are achieving with regards to overclocks.

I just put a 955x4 in my system about 2 hours ago and i'm still messing with that, but the voltage control does work, mine would error at 850 within minutes with occt and now i just ran 850 for 15 minutes at 1.1 volts.

Running a rock solid 900/1250 @ 1.2v right now. That is without trying to push it really at all. Could obviously push much higher.

good to hear 900 is pretty good. 1000 is where its at! push it and try to get 1000!

Yea, a 5850 at 950 core = a stock 5870, push it higher.

Here is some results from a 5850 at 950 core vs a 5870 with a 25 mhz core overclock.
The 5870"s overclock is also at 950 in the graph.

Gpu-z should show some vrm temperatures on the 5 series cards, keep an eye on them going that high on the voltage

I believe thats gpu-2 in the picture.

Where's that graph from and what's the res., etc.?

Actually the 5850 and 5870 at the same clocks are pretty damn close.

It starts to outperform 5870 at 878mhz. So that chart you show is obviously not very correct.

Just got a Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Extreme to replace my Powercolor Radeon HD 5770 and the difference in performance is amazing. I paid £108 for my Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Extreme and £85 for my Powercolor Radeon HD 5770 which makes the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Extreme a major bargain if your ask me! :)

Sorry, but those numbers are bunk.

The HD5850 at stock clocks is 18% slower than the HD5870. On average, it's 5% slower at 5870 clocks (850/1200). It matches a 5870 at 925/1200. This is based on my reading of at least a dozen reviews I've seen over the past 18 months.

By the way, all you guys pushing the Sapphire card, be a bit careful. It seems it doesn't clock quite as high as older designs at a given voltage, which is reasonable given its smaller PCB and cooler. I wouldn't take it much over 1.25v. It's a nice card, but it's not designed to dissapate a ton of heat and clearly isn't optimized for uber-overclocking. I'd probably stop at 900/1.2v, if that works. Doubt these will hit 1000, so I wouldn't use that as a goal.

I can believe this, because despite the name, it is clearly a bang-for-buck design to shift a stock of Cypress GPUs. The 5850 doesn't have the cache of being "new" or "high-end" anymore, and overclocking or reference designs would push up the price too much for it to be competitive with cards with newer GPUs.

The xtreme 5830s I bought 2 weeks ago lock up if I try and use this. I can easily use the ccc to overclock to 875 (1200) without issue. If I hit apply or reset, lockup.

Those numbers are right it says the 5870 has a 25mhz pre- overclock.
I said it matches a 5870 at 950 core, which is very close to your 925 core. I would guess it depends on the game.

See.

What is the max voltage that is safe to run the xtreme 5850 at? Kinda confused since its basically a 5850 on a 6xxx series board. Bumped up my previous overclock to 910/1250 @1.2v. That's the max I can go at 1.2 volts though.

Edit: Also, what temps are you guys seeing at stock clocks and idle for this card? Mine idles at 50-51c (dual monitors) no matter what I do when the fan is set to automatic. My ambient temps are a little high, but not more than 5c above "normal".

I might have to slap my Accelero on my card and see if I can get to 1,000.

What are people's temps at the higher voltage?

I just ran Unigine Heaven for about half an hour and reached a max temp of 58c across the board with the fan set on 65%. Idles at around 46c on a single monitor w/ fan set at automatic.

That is with the card at 910/1250 @ 1.2v.

Will the accelero from the 4800 series work on this card? The stock cooler does a good job but i would like to put the cooler from my 4830 on.the only part of the card i'm worried about is the vrm cooling,i would like to put a beefier heatsink on there.I'm only running 850/1200@1.1 volts and mid 50's with the fan at 50-60%

Had it running at 940/1250 @1.25v for an hour in Unigine Heaven without a problem last night. Then I load up Crysis benchmark and the driver crashes about halfway through the second run everytime. Weird. At least Windows 7 recovers pretty gracefully without bluescreening. Probably going to stick with 900/1250 @ 1.2v for when I am gaming. Its ridiculous though how little an overclock gets you in real world fps increases. A 25% overclocked video card nets me 1fps gain in Crysis benchmark and .5 fps gain in the Far Cry 2 benchmark.

Games usually turn up problems that benchmarks don't, so yeah, I'd say you should stick to 900 to keep it stable.

As for the lack of improvement in FPS, what's your CPU? Dual-core? That could be the problem.

For a 29% overclock, I got about a 25% increase in frames. Here are BC2 benchmarks I did a while ago with my 5850, at 1920x1200/4aa/16af:

725/1000: 50.8
755/1125: 53.8
850/1200: 59.6
925/1200: 62.2
935/1225: 63.6

By the way, Unigine isn't CPU-limited, so if you want to see the theoretical benefits of your GPU overclock, just compare Unigine scores. They should scale almost perfectly with clockspeed.

I have a q9300 at stock clock. Unigine benchmarks scale almost perfectly with the overclock, but when I run crysis benchmark and far cry 2 benchmarks, the gains are very minimal. Seems weird to me, but idk.
