I have a q9300 at stock clock. Unigine benchmarks scale almost perfectly with the overclock, but when I run crysis benchmark and far cry 2 benchmarks, the gains are very minimal. Seems weird to me, but idk.

You are CPU bottlenecked. Time to upgrade to Sandy bridge i5 2500k.

Will the accelero from the 4800 series work on this card? The stock cooler does a good job but i would like to put the cooler from my 4830 on.the only part of the card i'm worried about is the vrm cooling,i would like to put a beefier heatsink on there.I'm only running 850/1200@1.1 volts and mid 50's with the fan at 50-60%

You know, that's a great question. I figured it would fit just fine, but reading your post reminded me that this board isn't reference design at all.

Looking at your temps and the temps posted above leads me to believe that the cooler that comes with this card is more than adequate and using the Accelero is probably overkill at this point (until we can get more voltage).

That's 2.5GHz? You're probably seeing limited returns on your video card overclock because the CPU is holding you back. Overclock your CPU. I think most of those chips are a lock for 3GHz+.

So this is Sapphires way of clearing out their remaining 58xx stock.. shouldnt we be seeing record clocks if they are worth the marketting?

We're either being limited by binning (as most of the better 5850 chips have already been put in factory oc boards) or the fact the 5850 is being put on a PCB with VRM's rated for a lower power chip.

Please show me a video card which outperforms the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Extreme (no overclocking) yet costs the same as the 5770 because that is what my 5850 Extreme cost? In the uk I found a supplier which was the ONLY UK supplier I could find selling the Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Extreme for amazing cheap prices so I bought 2 for me and 4 for my friends.

Does anyone know why Trixx wont load up if you're in crossfire? or has anyone else had this same problem?

FWIW I downloaded the software, plugged in 1.2v, 900/1200 and ran Heaven for half an hour and no problems.

Seems to be a good combo. Now try something like crysis bench. That seemed to be a much harder benchmark for my overclocks to stay stable on.

It was strange, I played Borderlands for about 45 min with no problems at all, left the PC and came back a couple hours later and started to play it again. Immediatley the game started getting choppy and then about about 30 seconds it froze and the screen went crazy.

I backed it off to 850/1100 1.2v and went to bed. I'm at work now and won't be able to play with it again until tonight.

Are there any known cases of people killing HD5850 Xtremes by increasing the voltage? Because I have a feeling I just killed mine. However, it never was perfectly stable even at stock settings so it might have been a lemon and I just sped up the inevitable.

I have had mine up to 900@1.175 and no problems.I keep it at 850 1.1 but i increased the fan profiles because i don't like to see temps in the 60's.were you keeping an eye on the vrm temps? My core would stay in the mid to upper 50's but the vrm temp would be in the upper 60's with the increased fan.I have to install an accelero and 2 120's on mine but i keep putting it off

It wasn't stable at stock settings (which is something you can RMA for), but you decided to take it out of warranty with more voltage?

Ewwww...

That's why i'm over cautious when i overclock,i voided my warranty a week after i bought mine.i usually wait a few months

I think his point was if you had problems with it at stock, you should have RMAed it. And overclocking is the last thing you'd do with a card that should be RMAed.

Yes, I lol'd at that one.

On a more important note, I'm glad that somebody finally brought out an OC version 5830...that's definitely the answer to a question nobody was asking!

I went to install an acellero s1 rev.2 on my 5850 xtreme and i ran into an issue. The vrm heatsink is tall and lines up with one of the heat pipes,so you have to cut the stock sink or get a shorter one.I took some pics http://imageshack.us/g/707/picture003ygb.jpg/so anyone that plans on doing this you can see what you have to deal with.
