QUICK QUESTION: I am re-greasing the slider pins. I was told that dialectric grease is fine. I have some stuff that I bought from advance auto parts and it is dialectric spark plug stuff. It says it's for spark plugs on the tiny packet it came in, but is this the same dialectric stuff that a person could use on slider pins, or are there different dialectrics? Thanks!

--

Maxima is throbbing (like my big - ), so I need either new rotors or the existing ones resurfaced. OEM rotors, which I'd need to buy, will be $80/piece. Where would I get them resurfaced, and is it really worth the effort? I'll be buying new OEM pads eitherway at $58 for the pair.

*EDIT* OK I was about to take the rotors off and realized that I can't because firstly my bolts I bought are not quite big enough. I bought 8 mm 1.25 pitch metric. Honestly, even in my haynes, I can't find what it's supposed to be. Can anybody guess from that pic? Also, there is a whopping great bolt holding the damn rotor on. What size is that likely to be? It's definitely bigger than any that I have in my socket set :) Here is a pic of the condition of the front left rotor (some of those markings are just dust).

You'll note that one of the bolts holding the damn wheel on broke off as I was trying to unscrew it. Reason? It was threaded badly. Why? Because whomever put on my tires rushed the job months ago, so now I'm down to 4 bolts holding that wheel on.

If they've never been "turned" before and they aren't cracked or something, then you should be fine just having them resurfaced. You just don't want to turn them down so that there's a chance they'll break or something. Pair that with a new set of pads and you're good to go. Some parts stores will do it. I think it costs around $10 a piece or something like that. Not too expensive if I remember correctly.

Depends on how worn they are. Check the service specs in your service manual against the rotors. If they are too worn, get new ones. I would get new ones anyway. Autozone rotors are probably around $25 each for your car. Get some new pads while you are at it.

Thier is no reason to spend $80 each on the OEM ones. Rotors are a wear item, and the Autozone or Brembo Blanks should be more than servicable.

I just ordered new Brembo Blanks from nopionline for my Integra for $38 each.

My Civic is doing this pulsating thing when I brake also. Does this mean that I NEED new rotors or it is possible that the pads are just unevenly worn?

It's most likely either uneven or warped rotors. If they're uneven and still thick enough, you can resurface them and be okay. If they're warped really bad or too thin you'll have to replace them.

Original rotors are better than any replacement out there so turn them if possible unless they are warped, etc.

Autozone rotors for me are $65-72 depending on whcih I use :(

What can I do with the blanks - are they easy to get drilled somewhere?

Can I trust a place like NAPA to tell me if the rotors are ok for a re-do or if I should instaed buy new?

Also, what's the deal with this anti-squeel lubricant?

Nopi Has Brembo Blanks for $43 + shipping. Not a bad deal for damn good rotors. Why do you want them to be drilled? You planning on taking your family Sedan to the track? Drilled or slotted rotors are uselss in a street car.

Just get the blanks and you will be fine.

You can check it yourself with a caliper and the specs from your service manual (you do have a service manual right). If not, go buy one.

The anti squel - molyKote in my case goes on the backing of the pads (Shims) and prevents them from vibrating during braking causing that annoying squel. You can get it at any parts place. Just slather it evently on the NON CONTACT side of the pad and you are good to go. Spray the new rotor down with brake cleaner 1st as well.

Oh, I mean don't the blanks have no holes for the bolts to bolt them to the wheel...? Oh, I see that these do have the holes. Why are they called blanks then?

Go to discount auto parts store, they are a lot cheaper than going OEM and are just as good, Got a set for GMC Yukon before and only cost $60 for the set.

Because they aren't drilled or slotted. Ricers sometimes buy the blanks and have them drilled or slotted or frozen or all of the above. They are fine the way they are.

If your vehicle has screws holding the rotors in, you probably want to pick up an impact driver to remove the screws holding the rotors. If they are pressed into the hub, that will require a special tool as well.

If the rotors have never been turned then yes you can probable turn them at least once. If they are to far out or juts can't be turned, then..... Go to autozone and they can order rotors for $65 each, Beck&Arnely. While there get a set of Carbon Met. brake pads, these are what I use on most of my customers cars, including my own. Just don't use ceramic pads.

Get some Lifetime Warranty parts from your local Napa or whatever store. Will be less than that and the last pair you ever buy.

Be careful. I don't think this is the case with Nissans but some cars you just don't resurface the rotors, period. Volvo comes to mind. Throw pads at it and if the rotors are scored/etc. replace them.

Agreed. Go with Brembo. Cheaper then OEM and still high quality.
