A better question is why you would jump off of any other bridge, if you live in the area.

What makes people want to jump off this bridge?

Home prices, general expense of everything in the Bay Area, unemployment, under-employment, falling wages, slashed benefits, unexpected consequences of Obamacare, the prevalence of hipster douchebags, the 49ers disappointing yet again, accidentally wandered into San Mateo and became filled with existential disgust at the realization you'll never be as successful as those assholes, the realization that everyone else lumps all of California in with Los Angeles even though you're totally not like them, the sheer orangeness of the thing, Tim Lincecum, traffic, fog, your calves just can't take any more of these fucking hills, tourists, starry-eyed young idiots coming to the city to "find themselves," the plight of the California Brown Pelican, the line at Ghirardelli, a bad batch of acid, the sheer irony of existence, the Oakland Bay Bridge is way across town and, fuck it, I've got nothing better to do.

You've obviously put a lot of thought into this.

My advice to you: DON'T JUMP!

When the usual "glass half empty" mood hits you hard one morning, go to the pound and get a rescue dog.......You'll have something to live for and that will give you love unconditionally, even if you work at Popeyes.

Wouldn't people make fun of you more if you jumped off the Bay Bridge. Kind of like in New York, you would think the Brooklyn bridge would be a more popular suicide destination than the Williamsburg bridge.

But seriously the Golden Gate is really easy to access on foot and easy to climb over the rails to a place you can jump from.

The Bridge is a very interesting documentary about suicides at the Golden Gate Bridge. He filmed the bridge for a year. It is as sad as it is fascinating.

I have no idea why you would want to terrorize yourself for the few moments in the air.

It's generally foggy enough that you wouldn't be able to see anything anyway. Shit, half these suicides are probably people who got lost in the fog and tripped while they were trying to work their GPS. "This doesn't look like the Haight-Ashbury, but... WAAAAH" *splash*

apparently Jim Jones did the dedication and prayer for the new suicide prevention barrier a year before the jonestown incident.

I know what you mean...it's the last thing that you'll ever do in your life, would it kill you to add some class?

When are we going to ban bridges? Think of the children.
