it looks like a 9mm w/a compensator.

and a 9mm w/compensator is also laughable.

"compensator?"

for what? a dick?

No, it looks like this future gun

But it's nowhere near "silent". It sounds like an air pistol in reality.

Actually, the "oil filter suppressor" adapters are pretty quiet.

I would say that's "Hollywood quiet." Even in the movies silencers make a sound. It's even quieter than a crossbow and just above compound bow quiet. I would say that's silent.

If you want even quieter, hold the slide when firing the first shot to reduce the noise even further. It won't cycle the next round, but will eliminate the slide noise and make it just about silent. The bullet hitting the target will be what makes the most noise.

How many shots can you get through that before you need a replacement?

Unlimited in reality, the suppressor should last for the life of the gun unless you do something crazy and shoot something out of spec on it, like a super hot handload. Centerfire suppressors dont really even need to be cleaned for the most part.

If it were a rimfire suppressor, you would need to clean it every now and then to make sure there is no lead and other gunk building up inside, which is why most .22LR suppressors are designed to be taken apart and scrubbed.

There is really no story here with this gun. Yes, it is a new product by Silencerco, and is neat, but nothing huge in the form of something that isn't already available on the market. Hell, I was more excited about their shotgun suppressor, but that really isn't as quiet as I'd like. They are just combining an M&P pistol with a suppressor. Cool evolution, but nothing ground breaking (IMO).

You want something REALLY cool? Check out the auto aiming, no look TrackingPoint rifle. Now THIS is awesome!!! Now I just need ~$30K. 🙁

Troll post or not, there are probably a lot of overprotective soccer moms in Connecticut who think like this. This thing will probably end up on the ban list, along with all of those "deadly" .22 caliber AR-15's 😡

do u even need ear protection when firing a .22?

My 10/22 isn't so bad, but some of my pistols ring a bit.

.22 pistols suppressors are really nice to have for dispatching pests though. A neighbor may not ever know that their missing dog was getting into your garbage :awe:

WTF, this shit needs to be illegal. Someone could take this to a theatre and start shooting people in the back of the head and no one would notice.

You could sneak into somones home in the dead of night and execute them in their sleep without anyone noticing. You could go bedroom to bedroom killing the whole family. This gun is designed to execute in silence. Sick.

Must simpler to use an ice pick or straight razor or a hammer, except you wouldn't get desired media coverage of your crazy act.

Indoors maybe. Everything is louder inside.

Suppressors are already illegal in many states.
I'm not really sure why. Criminals don't seem to be bothered by the noise of firing a gun. Example: shooting the screen at a movie theatre. Common sense would say that someone doing that wouldn't want to draw so much attention to the fact that they are breaking several laws. Reality shows that the people doing this don't give a shit how many people hear or see them breaking the law.

Also, drug dealers and their cars. If you were selling cocaine, wouldn't you want to keep a low profile? Drive a stock Toyota Matrix with stock paint, stock tires, stock rims? Nope, gotta get a car that screams "HEY, I AM A CRIMINAL. PULL ME OVER AND SEARCH THE TRUNK." Criminals don't care about noise. If they want to shoot you in a theatre because you stepped on their shoes, they are going to do it regardless of how many witnesses are present. My brother falls into this general category. He likes driving too fast. Does he try to keep a low profile? Fuck no. His car is loud as hell. It's almost like he wants police to look at him, see him speeding, and give him a ticket.

There is a lot of paperwork and taxes, fingerprinting involved to purchase a NFA registered suppressor.

A guy who wants to shoot up a theater could care less about suppressing the sound.

And if they wanted to it is trivial to build an effective suppressor for a few dollars using household products.

Well, if you purchase on a trust (like me) or an LLC, you do not have to get fingerprinted, do not have to submit photos, and do not have to get the chief LEO sign off. Once the trust is set up (I used silencerCo's easy trust for $129) it is as simple as adding to cart and checking out really.

careful about that I got an infraction over a statement of a similar nature.

the AR-15's chambered for .22LR look nice. could be a good SHTF zombie apocalypse weapon for the walkers. not much noise (comparatively) which would help with not attracting too much attention. You'd probably need another weapon for other threats though.

Even one gunshot indoors can do a lot of permanent damage to your hearing? Why should one of have to take any level of hearing damage because someone, who deserves to die, decides to try and rob us?

Or do it the Darryl way and put a bolt through their head without waking up your family.

Suppressors are already illegal in many states. This isn't anything different.

That's a big negative... They are banned in 9 states. All of the typical anti gun states.
Interesting, that they are still legal in Sandy Hook. I would have thought that would have been changed.
