Greetings, all!

I'm going to build my first and you all have convinced me to go with the MSI Pro2-A. In starting down this road, I have some questions. I want to overclock a little but how do I know anything about the T-Bird I order? Will the sales guys tell me it's a "Week 26" or blue or green T-Bird or is it a total shot in the dark? (I assume it depends on where I buy it so if you have recommendations...) Also, I know I can get a guaranteed overclockable CPU but besides that, how can I tell what version of chip I'm buying before I jump in? I hope this all makes sense. I am looking at a T-Bird 900 or 950.

This is just the beginning of my quest so with all the questions I'm going to have I may become a "Member" on this thread alone!

Thanks-

lg

More than likely the sales guy you speak with won't be able to tell you too much about the CPU. AT least, that is the case for most mail order shops. Your best bet, if you want to make sure you can overclock is to by a pretested TBird. I do not know that many places that handles these, but a quick searc on the net should turn up quite a few. Hopefully others will chime in as well with suggestions.

Beyond that, you could just get a Duron as they tend to be easy to overclock and are more overclockable. You are not going to get too much of a gain OCing a TBird 900 or 950, whereas you can get a 50% gain with most Duron 600s. As for color and week codes, they are not the most reliable IDs of a chips OC potential.

One last thing to consider, if you do get a Pro2A, you can always unlock a 'locked' CPU with a pencil by closing the L1 bridges!

I ordered one from Openlinx on the Nov 20th. It is the 30th and still not here. Suppossed to be here on the 27... date on UPS's site says Dec 1st. Taking an awful long time. I am edgy on getting my second Duron system up!

I dood it !

Ordered my pro2A just now from Spartan Tech. $124 + $13 UPS to Fla. Said they had PLENTY in stock, as many as I wanted.

I am still waiting for the board, too, and hope it survives trecherous cross continent journey well.
Anyone gonna put this board in Antec SX830? Is there any comparability issue, particularily the I/O panel of the case and board?

Hey, Jimmy! It's getting close to a point that you might lead this pack to a new thread.

!!! W T F !!!!

UPS has alreday hit our house twice this morning for deliveries and none of them were from Openlinux (3-Day select from CA to OR, shipped on 11.21.00). They were both gifts from our wedding.

I am getting steamed as I will not be able to build now for roughly two weeks. I am out of town starting tonight for two weeks on business. <RANT> %#$& </RANT>

Nonetheless, I WILL be posting a site dedicated to the MSI Pro series of boards. It will be hosted at OrangeDelta. I am planning on making it a site for reference material pertaining to the board, reviews, FAQs, Tips & Tweaks, etc. Anyone who would like to contribute is welcome to. Please contact me here for information. I will try to get a rough idea of it laid out over the weekend and up on Sunday night (hey I ma not working the entire time I am out of town).

OK guys....we've busted 100 for posts....it's time for a new thread. OD3 has started a new thread that I intend to use. He is also creating a Pro/Pro2A page for info, tips trick and stuff. So,I am going to head over to his new thread and post some info about the blorb on the MSI K7T Pro2-A
