For the Canucks among us, [L]www.ncix.com[/L] recently listed the Pro2-A board on their site as backordered. At least a Canadian retailer is listing them now.

Heng,

I was very disappointed. I have a 750TBird and a Alpha 6035 cooler. I'm using artic silver paste. The best I can do on FSB is 104 and the highest I can post with Multiplier is 9.5 x 104. I can't do 10x100 I have the voltage jacked all the way up to 1.85 and the i/o volt to 3.45 (just to see if it helps) The temperature is 39 idle and 43 full load. I don't think is is the temp...I guess it is a lower quality chip. It is a week 26 Tbird (Green color..if that really matters) Even though I can post with 988, it is only stable at about 950.. SO, I am running at 900 now until I can figure out if I can push it any further.

I am also thinking about putting a blorb on the North bridge....I took a temp reading last night after an hour of playing Rune, the temp was 45c. That seems pretty hot for the north bridge. I am at 3.45v for the i/o, but really, asus's board is sent stock at 3.5, so it seems that MSI is underpowering their Northbridge or Asus is overclocking theirs.

Either way, I will keep posting with my results.

The max voltage with the 1.8v bios is 1.85 volts for VCore and 3.45 for i/o voltage. I hear there is an "overclockers" bios floating around, but I don't knw if it much different than the 1.8v bios I have installed.

Hey Jimmy,

About putting that blorb on the northbridge...does the stock heatsink pop on off if you remove the pins in the corners? Also, will a blorb's pins line up on those holes or will we need to mount with epoxy?

Just curious as I am waiting for my mobo and considering doing that northbridge mod that you mentioned.

Thnks!

OD,

The blorb will be here in two days, so I will let you know how it lines up when it gets here. (For less than 12 bucks, I'll find a used for it somewhere!) I pulled the pins out last night on the orange heat sink on the north bridge...and it is held on by thermal adheasive. So, until the blorb gets here, I will wait to try to get the heat sink off. If the holes line up, I will just use thermal goo and run bolts through the holes.

I will have more info on Wednesday and will let you know then. Also, I will let you know if it lets me get past 104 on the FSB.

Jimmy

Edit: Spelling...I really need to learn how to proof read ;-)

Cool. I guess I will go ahead and order one as well. Thanks for the update and keep us posted.

By the way, what heatsink/fan combo are you using?

One last thing, I am thinking about putting together a K7T Pro2/Pro2A resource, troubleshooting, faq, and general info page. Think it would be useful?

OD,

That would be a great Idea...it seems as if people don't read the threads anyway....we seem to be answering the same questions again and a again. A FAQ, link, and opinion page/site would really help us all. I would contribute as much as I could to it.

Thanks for the dedication.

J

Oh, I actually added my sig system finally. But to answer your question, I have an alpha 6035 (Just another sheep) I was happy with my stock cooler Master. I was getting 39c idle and 43c full load. With the Alpha that everyone said was a must have, I don't get much better. Oh well.

Hey, I'd like to participate, but the board is coming next Monday.:(
Keep posting your experiment. It'll help a lot of people coming later.
Thanks.
By the way, the idea of dedicated page is great.

I ordered the PRO2-A today from Spartantech, chose that over the Abit KT7-Raid, I am building for the first time and the Abit seems to have too many problems. I think some sort of resource/ FAQ site is a great idea seeing as alot of people are seeking out this board, seems to be popular.

excuse me for sounding like an idiot, but how do you flash the overclockers BIOS. I have it D/L, when i click on the program file it reads 'FILE NAME TO PROGRAM' and 'FILE NAME TO SAVE'. What do i type in those fields? Gotta learn sooner or later, preferably sooner. Anyways, i got my unlocked duron650 very stable at 880 (110X8) at 1.7v. Its sitting under a Hedgehog and a Delta 38, so heats not a problem. I know this thing can go higher, just need the voltage. Thanks everyone.

I'm curious which cpu's the users of this thread are planning on using for their MSI K7TPro2-A ?
Would anyone be interested in listing here your choice and perhaps your reason. I still have to select one and I would like to choose the best overclocking cpu for this board. My sdram from Mushkin is arriving Wednesday and it's two sticks of 128MB Mushkin High Perf REV1.5 PC133 222 Revision 1.5 Asus, MSI, Abit, Epox Passed TESTED 222 @133. Duron 600 pretested to 1100.
Haven't tested yet; my pro2a arrives tomorrow.
Full report then.

w9,

I'm not familiar with "pretested" processors. Briefly, what are they and if they are something I should want with this overclocker's mobo, where would I find them for the right price?

RB,

What is it clocked at? Make sure you use the defaults the first time.

Start with just the Hard drive. Make sure the ATA cable blue end in in the mobo and the black end in on the harddrive. Next make sure the harddrive jumper is set to cable select.

Those are the most obvious things....let me know if it worked, if not, we'll see what else we can do.

Will the MSI Pro2-A support AMD's Polarmo processor?

The reason I ask, I'm thinking of going with a Duron 600 OC'd and upgrading to a Polarmo later if I find then I need more speed. If the Polarmo is a smaller die, will it fit the Socket A?
