wow really, its one of those very few games that grab my attention and keep it till the game is over.

The main storyline is good but the crappy side-quests with the planet jumping mako was crap. At least the storyline was much better than Fallout 3 which I was sorely disappointed in.

In theory you could skip through all the dialog but thats what seperates it from all the average games. Its a game with some of the best story and plot as you can possibly find, but you have to appreciate it. If you zip through it all you wont be too into the story and it wont be much fun.

The combat is actually somewhat uninspired, even with the super powers, so you better enjoy all the stuff outside of combat.

@ shortylickens

I also experience that permanent weapons over-heating issue, I got the Steam version. It's been there ever since I bought it (a couple of months ago). And from what I read on the BioWare forums it's a well known and common issue, and obviously still has not been fixed, that's a shame.

Yea I wasn't a fan of the combat. I wanted more classic RPG combat.

Epic :D

Think I'll fire the game up. On my Xbox though (gave up on PC gaming :p). Got both the Xbox and the PC Collector's Edition versions :) Can provide pictures if necessary :p And yes, I also experienced the overheating issue when playing on my PC.

I would have been happy with either traditional RPG combat like KOTOR, OR, something like Deus Ex or Elder Scrolls. The poor hybrid they made for Mass Effect was just annoying.

I bought the game for like $10 a long time ago (either on sale online or at the salvage store), have not opened it yet. Might have to try it once my workload calms down. Post KotOR Bioware has been going in a disappointing direction.

That's until you play Mass Effect, which in my humble opinion is better than KOTOR in all aspects, even if I still to this day believe that KOTOR is the best Star Wars game I've ever played, but KOTOR is not the best of BioWare, what they did best was Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect, in my book that is.

Silly to make a claim like that having not even played Mass Effect... IMO it is just as good as Kotor and it has been their major RPG title since then. I am very much looking forward to ME2 due out soon.

I enjoyed ME a lot, but I kept thinking to myself, if only x, y and z were more like KOTOR. Overall KOTOR was a lot more satisfying for me. With ME, I got the impression that most of the budget was spend on making HD res models, environments and textures and the gameplay and story length got the short end of the stick. It felt like a Hollywood movie with too much emphasis on big sets and special effects. I felt the onscreen "production value," but it wasn't as satisfying as other games with lower end graphics. The optional side quest missions were so cookie cutter that it was almost embarrassing to see in a modern game like this, especially compared to the quality of the main storyline missions. I also didn't like some of the clumsy, console-port aspects of the interface and dialog system.

Still, I enjoyed it although I only played through once. I haven't played Bring Down the Sky yet, I was thinking I'd play that along with the new DLC if it ever comes out for PC.

I didn't have the overheating weapon bug, but I did have a number of crashes during dialog and at other random spots. The patch notes don't mention a fix, but they do refer to crashes that may have occurred with older Nvidia drivers. Hopefully, this patch and newer Nvidia drivers will minimize the crashes.

Mass Effect Pinnacle Station $5 at the EA Store

Nice, but I wish BioWare dedicated more time on producing more DLC, there's been only two over a period of almost two years, and the previous one was not even worth it. It's my only gripe about Mass Effect really, the lack of content addition via DLCs, and if there's one company that understands how it helps keeping interest in a product it's Valve, and also Bethesda to some extent (especially with Fallout 3, but the DLCs for Oblivion were laughable).

I hope they make more DLCs for Mass Effect 2.

Be warned that most of the reviews and forum comments about the Pinnacle Station DLC are pretty bad.

Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station Review IGN

I'm not sure why this add-on was ever released. Nearly two years after we were regaled by BioWare with the idea of a constantly expanding Mass Effect universe through downloadable additions, we've now born witness to a grand total of two underwhelming expansions. Pinnacle Station is uninspired, poorly constructed, and offers none of what made Mass Effect a great game in the first place. Skip this, lest you want to sully your anticipation for Mass Effect 2.

WTF. The last DLC (Bioware) was free but now EA want me to pay? What is this, Fallout 3? Fuck I hate EA.

I dunnu... as much as I hate EA.. when did we get to the point as gamers to expect stuff for free? Console gamers pay for it, pc gamers complain about it.

Chances are, yes Bioware was probably planning on it being free. So it most likely is EAs fault.. but do we really need to be this stingy?

A 3 hour expansion is probably more than worth $5. Consider the devs payroll. With EA probably leaching extra amounts of cash from Bioware they probably need it to keep the good employees around.

On a side note, Bioware released several mini-adventures for NWN1 for money as well before EA was in the picture. But Bioware isn't gay about it.. (horse armor anyone?????? oblivi......)

Well part of my issue (other than this dlc is probably worthless) is that EA site is a pia to use. It is nothing like steam or bioware; so at the end of the day no matter how good the game is I would be hard press to buy download content from EA. Steam, bioware and stardock all get a thumb up (though I know some people gripe about steam).

i had it happen to, but it happened for me at the worst possible time. it only happeend at the very end during the boss battle, and it happened after i added a weapon mod that increased power 300% but reduced cooling 400% or something like that. with taht mod on i could only get 2 shots before the pistol overheated, but even when i took that mod off the gun would still overheat and then stay overheated for like 20-30 seconds. i even saved the game with the mod off the weapon and it still happened. very annoying.

No one is forcing you to buy it. I'm personally happy to support Bioware.

Now we have your address! Let the letters begin!
You would be sending letters to the GameCrazy in Beaverton Oregon, which (if you take I-94) is approximately 2815 miles away from my current locale.

I've had weapons overheat and seemingly stay that way but I've always assumed it was simply an enemy casting Sabotage against me (forces overheating). Simply switching weapons and waiting 10-20 seconds is all it takes though, so obviously if you guys have to reboot then it's a major issue.

The only serious issue I've had with this game is that the audio in cutscenes sometimes gets a little messed up. Specifically, the music and audio effects don't play sometimes during cutscenes, the characters voices seem to always work fine and a handful of effects play normally. It's rare and most of the cutscenes play fine, also if I reload a savegame the cutscene might play fine, so it's not the cutscene itself but rather something else causing this...

I've tried updating to the latest Creative drivers and recreating the BioEngine.ini file. I have an old Audigy 2ZS Gamer sound card running on Vista 32. I use 'Hardware Audio'. Anyone else experience this or know a fix? Googing hasn't yet turned up a solution though I'll keep looking...
