I enjoyed ME a lot, but I kept thinking to myself, if only x, y and z were more like KOTOR. Overall KOTOR was a lot more satisfying for me. With ME, I got the impression that most of the budget was spend on making HD res models, environments and textures and the gameplay and story length got the short end of the stick. It felt like a Hollywood movie with too much emphasis on big sets and special effects. I felt the onscreen "production value," but it wasn't as satisfying as other games with lower end graphics. The optional side quest missions were so cookie cutter that it was almost embarrassing to see in a modern game like this, especially compared to the quality of the main storyline missions. I also didn't like some of the clumsy, console-port aspects of the interface and dialog system.
Still, I enjoyed it although I only played through once. I haven't played Bring Down the Sky yet, I was thinking I'd play that along with the new DLC if it ever comes out for PC.
I didn't have the overheating weapon bug, but I did have a number of crashes during dialog and at other random spots. The patch notes don't mention a fix, but they do refer to crashes that may have occurred with older Nvidia drivers. Hopefully, this patch and newer Nvidia drivers will minimize the crashes.
