I was laid off at the beginning of January and I just took a 6 month contract-to-hire job for a company doing phone support. Today was my 2nd day of training and already I want to quit.

It appears to be nothing like I expected it would be. I thought I'd be taking calls from clients who had problems with their systems and walking them through fixing it. From what the trainer told me today, I don't tell any of the clients what to do. I just make suggestions or i email them instructions that i look up on the company's intranet system.

also, the operations manager came in today and spoke with us and basically told us that everyone else in the company was taking a paycut instead of laying off people. this didn't affect contractors currently, but he expected it to happen eventually. they also said that they aren't hiring to permenant positions now either. I assume this is because of the pay cuts.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the contract that says I can't leave early. I get paid less than the agreed upon rate if I leave within a certain time period. I'm fine with that if I can quit the job. hell, i'm fine with quitting with no pay if i can quit tomorrow.

The recruiter also hasn't received some of my paperwork that is needed for me to be there. I sent it last Tuesday but they say they didn't get it. They say I can't legally work on site without these documents on file. They need them overnighted tomorrow. What if I just don't send them those documents?

My main problem though, is how would this affect unemployment compensation?
Will my unemployment benefits be over if I quit now or are there any special circumstances that would allow me to continue to receive the benefits until i find a job that is suited to my skill level?

I originally declined the job because I didn't even want it to begin with and I was waiting to hear back from a much, much, much better position. They called me back and said they could give me a few more days to decide and to hear from this other company. The other company was still interviewing so I said I would take the job but that I would quit if the other position came through and that I would continue to look for another job.

I wish i would have stuck with declining the job.

I'd rather you work the job you have so that the unemployment money you're leeching can go to someone who hasn't found a job yet.

you can make a certain percentage of your benefits, at least in PA. I think its 40%.

I'm getting $407 per week so I can make up to $160-something before they start to take away from my benefits.

that's all pre-tax.

i don't have a whole lot of expenses.

You're probably the only person in the world that hates their job and wishes they could find something better.

If you don't want your job, quit. There's thousands of others that will gladly take it and not bitch during their 2nd day of training.

You sound like a typical whiney little bitch.

"Waah, waah, I don't like my job!"

Now you want to quit a job and suck at the public tit. I hope you wind up living in a dumpster.

If you dont report during your Unemployment claim that you found a job than it shouldn't effect it. Just quit and dont tell them you worked this week.

i can answer this for you.

first i have to know. when you were laid off, did you file for unemployment? second, when you accepted the contract to hire job did you tell unemployment anything?

facts:
unemployment will pay you until you tell them you have fully returned to a full time job.
if you are doing contract work you can still keep the unemployment option open actually. when you do your claims every week just put down you earned so and so amount that week. for my state, if i earn more than $405 a week then unemployment pays me nothing, but it remains active.
you can keep this going until either you run out of unemployment payout money, the unemployment payout period (which is one year from when you start it i believe) expires, or you return to full time work.

someone asked this question during my dept. of labor session for unemployment. remember, temp to hire doesn't mean you are back full time unless you are actually HIRED. so long as you are still temp status you can still keep it going.

ok, so keep track of how much you earned since you were laid off. that will be needed. when it comes time to file for your weekly, just mark down that you earned so and so amount during that time period, and you haven't returned to work full time yet, that's all.

unemployment allows you to do temporary work while still claiming. just claim the amount you earn every week and it'll adjust your payout for that week.

fyi, they WILL see you worked, so hiding it may invalidate your unemployment.

if you want to be absolutely sure you can always call the dept. of labor in your area. they should be able to answer everything you want. they should have sent you a guide book as well how everything works.
