I spent 4 hours today trying to get admin access so i can finish a tech demo by 1:30pm... no luck. Come 3 pm I said ****** it and grabbed a rogue linux box we had sitting around and just put it on the network. Problem solved.
That being said, i wouldn't let non-tech people load stuff on a windows box.
And im sure you are the same yuppy that claims that systems are insecure and not reliable while at the same time spending most of your day organizing your ipod library and rocking out with Bonzai Buddy. There is a reason why the IT people are in charge of IT. There needs to be order and control in order to have an efficient and secure system

Something about the OP's post makes me think about SNL's Computer Guy skits.

hmm, what is the annoying part? Her asking your help or her asking for permission?
Well, we can start with this one:A good use of his time?she was complaining that there wasn't a particular font that she liked and used at home.
As someone who is frequently frustrated by lack of admin, it would be nice if there was a bit more logic sometimes behind what I am and am not allowed to do.
Example: In XP, windows grouping was active and I could not access the settings becuase they were locked. So I searched around, found the register key and modified the registry value. So I can't update task bar properties, but I can edit the registry?
That sounds like you found a backdoor that the person creating the policy never thought of.
So does Michael Jackson, but he's no Billy Jean.Originally posted by: RichUK

Put her on the punishment hub.
What is "the punishment hub?"
A 10Mb hub connected to the network. Attached to this hub should be one PC that does nothing but causes lots of traffic, creating a massive bottleneck for anyone else stuck on it.![]()
Heh... or if you have managed switches, configure her port to 10Mbps half-duplex and put QoS on it.Originally posted by: iamwiz82

No actually I have a degree in Computer Science and happen to be part of the business division that pays the bills. There's no difference whether you have the admin password and install the dev tools I need or I just do it myself... well except that the former takes days.
Her job function has nothing to do with graphics or art design.Originally posted by: eakers
is she really into fonts because she does graphics or something?
Uh oh... someone pulled out the "we make the business money" card.Originally posted by: halik

So we had a new employee start about two weeks ago. A couple days after she started, she asked if she could bring in a label maker and install the software (herself). I'm like, no, I have to do it. She then apparently found some old and outdated fonts that we had stored on our server. She tried to install them (herself) and quickly found out that she didn't have the proper Windows permissions to do so. She asked if I could install them for her which I reluctantly agreed to do. While doing so, she asked if she could bring in a screen saver from home and again asked if she could install it herself? Notice a trend so far...? About a couple days ago, she was complaining that there wasn't a particular font that she liked and used at home. She asked if she could bring a copy of it and again install it herself.
