NO. Consumers are out of control that they believe their consumption is entitlement. That is the cause of outsourcing and other problems, and it will continue as long as people fail to understand how an economy works, and want the best for nothing. That is all. It is not just cars, but tools and pretty much everything else.

I personally hope all cheapskates either die quickly, or kill themselves forgetting to eat while they complain on the internet. Then maybe an exploited third world worker will get an extra $.02 for the day, after the load of a whiny ass consumer is lifted.

Pretty sure the only poor fuck in here is you, both mentally, fiscally and personally.

Lowest of the low.

Awe, poor little car snob got rolled. Did I hurt your feelers? Need a tissue?

Funny that you still don't get it. Perhaps you need some of the drugs you peddle. Do they make one for insecurity?

Oh, so this is yet another thread where everyone screams into it, and thinks that will change someone's deeply ingrained opinions. I guess I should have realized that when it was more than one page.

You seem to be a very insecure person. It's like you are threatened by someone else having something better than you.

No, I am just "poor" and jealous about people who buy overpriced unrealiable trash and go around calling me poor as they try to impress doctors.

Who is more insecure, the one who uses a car to impress doctors or says that only "poor people" rip on their car choices - or the person who points out that trying to impress people with cars or that objective people know that cars like a BMW are really not that great?

Keep in mind, I've never even said what I could afford.

You argue that expensive cars are a waste of money, unreliable, and, to most, merely a means of conveying status. Tell me, do you or your significant other wear any jewelry? Own expensive electronics? Do you drive a large pickup or SUV? Wear anything beyond cheap name brand clothes? Buy anything not generic? Ever send large boquets of flowers to your signifcant other at work? Flown first class? Drank any wine or liquor that costs more than $20 a bottle? Arguments can be made that all these things meet your some or all of your same standards against expensive cars.

We're all guilty of wasting money on things that aren't truly worth it, may only be to spoil ourselves, and, sometimes, just for the sake of conveying status. Cars can be one of those items and I see nothing wrong with someone purchasing an expensive car if it doesn't interfere with their ability to save for emergencies and retirement.

Yes, because when I debate people sending flowers they often call me "poor", "jealous".

I don't see anything inherently wrong with purchasing an expensive car. I just find it humorous that these guys can't admit what it really is or that their strawman about those who rip on them are "poor".

It reminds me of this last election cycle when anybody who dared say Romney was cheating the tax system or was a modern-day robber barron was called "jealous" or "poor" by people who probably didn't make that much either.

It's a ridiculous debate tactic and I threw it back at them. Hence why Pho decided to get even more silly. As I asked, who is more insecure?

It's been a fun ride.

I understand your reasoning for the vitriol, but as I pointed out you're likely just as guilty on other avenues as those you denigrate.

They may choose to view their car as a status symbol, you may choose to buy your wife expensive flowers or jewelry as a status symbol, or a massive pickup, etc.

We're talking animals and we live in a competitive society and economy. We're all guilty of wasting money for little reason besides flaunting.

Sure, cars and the world have changed but, here's some perspective for the 'youts.' When I was in HS, a guy could save all his money from working crappy part time jobs for two years and buy himself a brand new car outright. That isn't even a remote possibility for the wealthiest areas today.

Sure it is. You just have to live at home and save all your money to do it. Same as then as it is now.

My dad paid $300 for his first car. It was used. Years later I paid $53,500 for my first car. It was new. With inflation, that's probably like $80,000 today. I paid cash. I still have fond memories of my first car.

You earned $53,500 working crappy part time jobs in HS? Where is this fabulous fantasy planet?

The difference is that I am fully wiling to admit that my Omega, while an "automatic", is finicky and requires a lot of maintenance. If somebody were to tell me that I wouldn't think they were "poor" and ripping on it because they couldn't afford one, I'd just say "yeah, you're right, it's a completely frivolous purchase that is something I wanted and it'll last for 50 years"

Or when somebody asks me whether spending $400+ on Allen Edmonds or Alden shoes (which is what I only wear) is worth it, I would say absolutely. They last for 20+ years with proper care (which I do myself) and resoling. They don't fill the landfills up with cheap leather/rubber crap shoes that can be resoled and are made in the USA. Yet I don't look down on people wearing Florsheim or KC or CH (although I will tell them that AE is a much better deal). Ohh and I get almost all of my shoes on discount.

Or when people ask me why I only by Brooks Brother shirts, I say that their iron-free is the best around and their return policy is bullet proof. Yet I don't wear any shirts with the Golden Fleece symbol, nor do I go around flaunting my BB shirts or look down at those only wearing JAB shirts. The only way you can tell is how BB does their cuffs, that's it.

This is why I've avoided even discussing my own preferences but I find it amusing that I am being attacked for being poor because I think they are ridiculous for justifying their purchases by saying it's a better car (when it isn't) or that anybody who rips on them can't afford them.

Who said I worked some crappy job for the money? I didn't have a car in HS or college. Wall St was giving away monopoly money during the dotcom boom so I traded some monopoly money for a new car. Sort of like how Mark Cuban traded his monopoly money to buy the Dallas Mavericks. Just on much smaller scale.

The funny part is that he's picking on me. A respectable person in their late 20's with a decent car that I worked for to get.

His head would asplode if he looked around where I grew up. My 335i was considered 16th birthday present to all of the korean/chinese kids. Those were all paid with cash as well. I totally remember seeing a Cayenne GT with a huge 16th birthday bow on it one day; I incidentally saw the same SUV crumpled into a pole a few months later.

In fact, my roommate in college (originally from HK) bought a fully loaded A4 and asked if he could pay for it with his debit card. Hilarious stuff.

I really don't care what he has to say, I'm used to ungrateful people throwing shit at me all day. Perspective to me is no matter how much you can hate on me, when you might actually need me one day you're going to be damn glad I'm in a good mood and ready to work.

Though, those of high intelligence aren't usually the type to be driven into finance. I could easily have gone that route but I picked something that would actually require me to use my brain. I'm happy either way.

Working part time in HS? No, and neither can you.

Maybe its just CA, but I'm pretty sure almost all of my friends in engineering that got jobs straight out of undergrad lived at home for a year or two.

Making that much is possible if you're in sales or something and really good at it though. A guy in my dorm was a "client manager" for AX and was pulling in pretty good dough with his commission.

Listen man, I think you need to take a step back and take a deep breath. The reason people are jumping to the conclusion that you're just a "jealous poor person" is because your attitude is typical of those people. Listen, I don't drive a BMW but I acknowledge the fact that they are nice cars. Reliable? No, not really. Do they drive great? Yes, yes they do. Are there people that drive them that try to pretend they are something they aren't (wannabes)? Yes. Are there some people that just love BMW's because they like the car? Yes.

My point is, I think you are taking your frustrations out on a car brand because of some douche you ran into in the past that owned a BMW.

I lived in Greenwich CT for almost 5 years, I've seen it all.

If you were so highly intelligent you'd have done your research and found out that BMW's are poorly engineered. If you were so smart you wouldn't be suckered in by such ridiculous and easily dismissed claims.

But hey, not everybody can be smart enough to use google.
