I recently put on a new axleback on my 04 impreza thinking it would make it a small bit louder.

instead, the Turbo XS axleback is super loud, louder than the catback on my Altima.

I want to know if there is a cheap way to quiet this down without replacing the muffler, maybe under $100.

I found an auger style insert, it looks like it would quiet it down, any idea's?

Put the stock exhaust back on. If you want something more subtle, sell what you have and look for an SPT catback or Prodrive axle back.

My neighbors kid did this to his Civic. I seriously want to punch him. It is so fucking loud I can hear him start his car from anywhere within my house.

Anyhting you put in the pipe/muffler to restrict sound will also restrict flow decreasing performance, just get a quality catback that has a sound you like, or hack that one up and put in some good mufflers.

On the right car it adds noticeable power. Otherwise it generally just makes more noise.
