New Alice in Chains album coming out??

I've got a Rhapsody subscription and downloaded it from there and it's just wierd....some songs like "Your Decision" sound okay and pretty clear but then it cuts over to A Looking In View and it's just a compressed blurry mess. Check My Brain is the same way.

The radio versions don't sound this bad, or maybe it's just lost in the FM transmission.

Whatever the case is, my subscription version is compressed to oblivion and the production feels different on each song.



As far as my review, as usual I agree with Mr. Platypus and others. The first track is probably my favorite and really has the most "Alice" feel to it. When he's singing/chanting along with Jerry he's indistinguisable from Layne. Other songs are like a pop-rock spin on grunge with the winner of a Layne Staley cover singer contest. It's not a bad album at all. It's just not quite up to what I had hoped with the teasers we got from a A Looking in View.

And while Jerry may have been the man behind the music, the new lyrics and emotion just don't have the pain and torment that was channeled through Layne.

Gave it a go yesterday and today a bit and while theres a few decent tracks on there, I just can't get behind the whole album.

It's OK at best and not very good at worst.

I bought the album the other day (only to find it was 9.99 at Newbury comics, damnit!) and listened to the first few tracks. I haven't had time to listen to the rest. So far, so good. I'm just happy to hear a good band putting out good stuff. It's not that my expectations are low, it's more about feeling good to hear them still making music. There's no ego with these guys, there's no "we're reinventing our image and trying hard to appeal to our fans", no changing a good formula under the guise of "growing and maturing". They stick to what they're good at even if they're down a Layne.
