as for Goodfella: better than 6th sense, not better than Titanic.
Also not so excited about 2001 space odyssey climbing even higher. But i think personally I dont like Kubrik's movies

In terms of sheer size of production Titanic was amazing. The movie was pretty entertaining. I liked the score, the sets/costumes, the plot was good.

I think a lot of women would disagree with you on Goodfella being better than Titanic, and maybe some Academy voters as well

Of course they will and they'd be wrong. While Titanic was epic, there are so many other brilliant filmmaking elements to Goodfellas that Titanic lacks.

Top 100 Movies list is every 10 years.....I think there are other lists for the rest.

I saw Citizen Kane and did not understand all the critical praise it gets, but that's just cause I'm young I suppose. I actually disliked it.

Where's Happy Gilmore, Tommy Boy, and Billy Madison on the list?

I'll be watching the show over again...but I originally posted the OP since I got home around #18 and someone told me that Citizen Kane had gone already. I just about lost my mind...I absolutely love that film and didn't think it had any chance of falling. So finally I see that it didn't and all was well...sort of. I still have yet to see "The Searchers", but after it's big jump, I'll probably rent/buy it soon. Of the new additions, I'll have to comment on those later...I didn't like how "On the Waterfront" and "It's a Wonderful Life" fell to #19 and #20, respectively. I'm very glad that Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" finally got on the list as it should have been there the first time around.

Too many other things to talk about, if someone finds an article showing the more major movements, please PM it to me...flipping back and forth is quite annoying.

Raging bull going up +20 into the top 4 is bullsh1t. how can a movie that was top 20 10 years ago be suddenly among the top 5 american films of all time? having THAT much movement within the top is ridiculous, especially by a film that's already been listed. how did it magically get that muc hbetter in 10 years time

On a serious note, I don't understand people's infatuation with Goodfellas. Godfather, I can truly appreciate. Sixth Sense and Titanic are much more enjoyable than Goodfellas.

LOTR doesn't belong in my opinion. We won't know which movies made recently were great until the perspective of time is available.

Movies from the last 8 years will start appearing soon. Its all about perspective. Apparently Kane did something for movie making and that impact is more and more prfound as we see time move on (I haven't seen it, nor do i have an interest in seeing it). Maybe movies like American Beauty or A beautiful mind start to show up as time goes on.

edit: Just saw they added Toy Story. While agree that that is a movie changed animation, i think as time progresses 'The Incredibles' will take its place. By far some the best work when it comes to animated films. within Pixar and outside of Pixar. But the main thing is that looking at the films most of the are from before the 1970s, which means that the impact that these movies had on cinematic progress can be seen and i think that is the purpose of these lists. But considering the decades of movies that have been made just picking 100 is a feat in of itself. The list will always be debated.

Alot of the things you posted I can agree with, however I think you are totally off on this one. The move up is a correction to the low placement of #24 this film was given.

1) This is Martin Scorcese's masterpiece. He is arguably America's greatest filmmaker and this work is his best.
2) This is the greatest performance of Robert DeNiro's career (with Taxi Driver). The best actor of his generation and arguably the greatest of all time. The transformation he makes to his body for this role is nothing short of incredible.
3) Joe Pesci and Cathy Moriarty give perfect perfomances as LaMotta's brother and wife.
4) The dialogue and interaction between Jake and Joey was priceless.
5) The way the film is shot in muted black and white gives the film a beautiful elegance that also conveys the depression and misery of LaMotta.

It didn't get magically better, it was always this good, the critics who vote just pulled their heads out of the arses and got it right this time.
