I'm recording it, but the official new list will release at 11PM PST. Some big changes (I don't agree with some of them), some minor ones...I know there's at least a few film buffs on ATOT that have seen enough of the top 100 to talk about the list.

I'm excited/pissed off over here :p

I'm recording it on the Replay right now. One thing that ticked me off was that GoodFellas was ranked lower than Sixth Sense and Titanic.

I hope you're kidding...that would be ridiculous.

It doesn't. Kane is still no. 1

Somehow The Godfather became a better movie than Casablanca during the last ten years.

as for Goodfella: better than 6th sense, not better than Titanic.
Also not so excited about 2001 space odyssey climbing even higher. But i think personally I dont like Kubrik's movies

Casablanca, while a great movie, is IMO not as good as the Godfather.
6th Sense being higher than Goodfellas makes no sense at all.

Which is exactly why i don't understand why they had to do a "new top 100". It's just stupid.

In terms of sheer size of production Titanic was amazing. The movie was pretty entertaining. I liked the score, the sets/costumes, the plot was good.

I think a lot of women would disagree with you on Goodfella being better than Titanic, and maybe some Academy voters as well

its a top 100 films from the past 100 years that they update EVERY YEAR.... seems really pointless to me

as great as it is and part of the reason why i think these lists are horsesh*t is because one of the main criteria's is that it has to be an american film. great, its the american film institute but i still think its damaging its credibility by omitting some great foreign films. if that wasn't the case im sure leone and kurosawa would be kicking ass all over this list.

Lawrence of Arabia being an America production is a bit of a stretch to be honest

Probably every 10 years.

from the website

Each year, AFI presents another episode in its widely acclaimed series of CBS television specials -- AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies

what do they do the other nine years then?

edit* ahh there's other lists. I just read it wrong I guess

Well, Lawrence of Arabia was produced by Columbia.

good point! but see, the're tricky with their wording...
American film: English language, with significant creative and/or financial production elements from the United States.
i wish they would either expand it or just make it more clear. of course, im still bitter because 'the hustler' is not on there.
