Ghostbusters was a one off surprise that captured lightning in a bottle. A quirky conceit, perfectly executed, and never to be duplicated. The sequel sucked and any reboot would inevitably suck. I feel bad for the actresses and director. Don't feel bad for the studio execs, though, 'cause rebooting such a unique, weird movie was predictably going to fail.
I was expecting a much lower budget, more like something that's sitting on the "direct to video" fence. Throw a few million at it, make a nice return, just something to help push up the studio's profitability.
I was quite surprised to see a $154M budget.

I adore Kristin Wiig but it's the exact same plot...
Take no risks.

...other than spending $154M on this.

Also....Release date is July 15. >4 months away.
They should just start hyping these things as soon as the movie gets green-lighted for production. Good god.

I wish they had done it on 60 mil. Would have meant fewer boxes to check and bullet points to nail over what the studio "needs" to be in the movie to appeal to a large enough audience to be profitable. It could even have drawn out more creativity.

It's amazing what just going back to the original Ray Parker Jr. song does for the trailer. Eliminate the "angsty" piano at the beginning, get rid of some of the cringey dialog like the exorcist scene and the "you're the best at science!" and just make it a fun movie.

So, will the actual movie be more like the horrible official trailer, or the fun fan edit trailer? Time will tell.

They need to hire the guy that did the fan trailer into doing the editing of this movie. Might only end up being a 20 minute movie but that isn't necessarily worse than a 100 minute cringe fest.

If they added in, "the power of pain compels you!" it would almost look worth going to see, instead of waiting for Netflix. (And leave out the "going first" part.)

Doesn't she say "The power of Patty compels you!"? I thought it was "pain" at first, but then it sounded more like her name. Although, maybe that's influenced by the ridiculous "Patty" necklace that she wears. Is that so the viewers don't forget who she is?

Most of that probably went to Helmsworth. He's used to that Marvel money, mang.

Does anyone other than RDJ actually make a ton of money? I know that the others got paid pennies on the dollar compared to RDJ for Avengers, but there were supposedly contract renegotiations after Avengers huge take.

Yeah, you can take the other's salary, add it up, and double it and it's still less than what RDJ hauled in.

You could argue that Iron Man is the movie that started the recent Marvel money train and is the most irreplaceable actor in the group. RDJ *IS* Iron Man. More so than any other of the characters.

It's going to suck. Probably one of those movies where you kinda cringe knowing that they just tried to make you laugh with a gag or joke but it just doesn't work.

To prep yourself to seeing this, see Robocop 3. Whatever this movie turns out to be will be amazing compared to that.

To be fair...

the trailer for the 80's movie didn't appear to be awesome either imho

^The original then the rerelease... much the same trailer

I think if you look at it while trying not to be nostalgic about the classic movie one can see how the 80s trailer looks like it was rather average.

Looking at the Box office mojo information for original Ghostbusters movie daily grosses the 2nd Weekend of release actually did more business than the first.... something quite unheard of these days.
It must've been word of mouth that made more people go in the 2nd weekend of release than in the first....

Of course the new one could be terrible... and even if it is not I don't expect it to be as good as the original.
but maybe the new trailer just doesn't do the new movie justice. One can hope at least.

Yeah....and I did think of the recut trailers, like the one that does up The Shining to look like a fun family movie.

(Well, depending on your family, it might already be a fun family movie.)

The ghosts look good but otherwise looks more like a silly comedy.

You kidding? That trailer was brilliant in context of the time. No one ever saw a big-budget special effects monster movie with a comedic twist...at least not one that had ever WORKED.

I think it's AWESOME that they could resist a spoiler like showing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the movie's trailer. Sure, it would have attracted more people to see it for the spectacle, but the viewers' enjoyment / enthusiasm leaving the theater (and the movie's enduring legacy) would have been lessened.

I really don't like the fan-cut trailer either. All the trailers for the new film look terrible.

I'm not giving up on it yet after one trailer, but it's not looking good.

But, Kate McKinnon is a total babe.

Keep in mind that the original had a hit video/song to help sell it. I don't remember the trailer, but I do remember the video. Not really the case with this one. Also it had what were considered very popular actors, which may or may not be the case with the new one.

They should just get rid of the fatties with more hotties, rewrite the script for the beach with ghosts, put said hotties in skimpy bathing suits and call it GhostWatch. Give the Hoff a 1:00 cameo and it's box office hit. Boom.

They're running a business, they could do a crappy new Ghostbusters and make hundreds of millions of dollars or they could not do a Ghostbusters project and not make hundreds of millions of dollars. What the hell choice do you think they'd make?

lol. You think this is going to come anywhere near turning a profit?
