I don't feel like reading seven pages, so apologies for any recycled content:

It seems to me that maybe the top echelon of Netflix and their biggest investors made out like banshees for years and knew this day was coming.

They created a great thing, and tons of money to go with it, and now they're pulling out with their profits intact instead of risking what they've gained trying to stabilize or improve the company.

This "new" netflix is the beginning of what's left over.

The 10M number is not going to grow much, in fact it will probably shrink. There's only so many people interested in B-movies and last season's TV shows.

Netflix did give it to them for free for years... so I don't know if I can blame them too much for being annoyed. Is it logical of them to expect to continue getting it for free? Of course not, but I think that logic is better understood by the technologically inclined.

Remember... there are people who think that Internet Explorer = The Internets.

Wrong, it wasn't free. It was part of a package which folks paid for. The correct way to look at it is that they basically doubled their prices without offering anything new.

So what alternatives are there for people who like the mail order service and the huge catalogue, but don't want to give Qwickster any money? How is Blockbuster's mail order service? I go to Redbox often but there are plenty of catalog releases that are on my list of movies to see.

The alternative is to grow a set of balls and realize Netflix/Qwikster is still the best option. You people are so emotional

I just want my content. If it's two companies, fine. If it's just streaming, but they offer 1080p + lossless audio + new releases, even better. I'd pay more, hell I'd pay 30 or 40 a month to get everything I want on streaming.

What I'm not ok with is continuing to pay for streaming if they are losing content, or streaming as it is now with no dvds (if they sell it off).

can you be more clear on your opinion of the whole netflix thing? im really not sure i understand what you are trying to say. i know you have said the exact same thing several times over. for some reason...i'm just not getting it. can you post your opinion a few more times? maybe then I, and others here like me who have a differing opinion, will understand.

Just downgraded my plan to streaming only. May cancel that in a month or two, because I hardly watch it any more. I don't have cable TV so Netflix streaming is good for shows to play as background noise when I'm doing stuff that doesn't require my full attention (cleaning house, web browsing).

If people are going to continue to cry, I'll continue to tell them to stop. But I know, trying to change the mind of an idiot is probably a useless proposition. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't try. Feel free to skip my posts if you rather just read the exact same complaint and not my exact same response

you aren't trying to change minds, you are insulting people who dont feel the same way you do. dont try to disguise that as some magnanimous gesture to help people.

and you, of course, can feel free to ignore this whole thread of 'emotional' 'whiners' whose minds it is a 'useless proposition' to try to change. yet you don't.

If you are happy with the DVD mailing service, why wouldn't you want to give Quikster money for the service? Unhappy about the price hike?

My take on it is that people have been spoiled by the streaming service, and it is hurting their business. Everyone used to love Netflix before streaming came out. I used to watch 1-4 DVD's a week. Once streaming came out I got used to the convenience of watching content on demand, and got too lazy to mail DVD's back and I have literally watched 3-4 DVD's during the year since I started using Netflix streaming. So now I'm cancelling the DVD service, but because their streaming selection sucks I'm probably going to cancel that in the future as well.

Most online movie on-demand services suck pretty badly. Their selections are always really lame. The marketplace is way too fragmented. Amazon has shitty selection. Vudu and Sony PSN have roughly the same lame movies and charge $4-6 a movie, which I consider to be too much. You are just downloading 1-2 gig file. I already pay for the bandwidth at my ISP. Other services where you pay for bandwidth (like usenet subscriptions; mentioning usenet only in terms of it being a service where you pay for the bandwidth, not as an alternative for getting content) are much cheaper.

Really, the only reason they charge this much is because they know people are willing to pay it. They know this because people have been paying this much for movies for at least a couple of decades now. Rather than charge you less because they can now deliver the content more cheaply online, they want to keep charging the same and pocket the savings themselves. This is just pure greed. One might ask why not let the free market decide, if the service can be provided more cheaply, then let someone step in and do it and drive the old guys out of business. But that's what Netflix has tried to do, and the movie studios and content providers are monopolizing the content, preventing this from happening. They are refusing to grant the licensing deals for Netflix or other guys to provide a lower cost service.

Since I disagree with this, I vote with my dollars. I will support Netflix, but unfortunately without the content I want to watch I won't pay them, so it's likely they will fail or have to change their business model.

I have gone from paying for cable/HD-DVR/2 premium channels + netflix + the occasional movie out + occasional DVD purchase, around $150 - $170/mo, to paying only for Netflix streaming, a total of $7.99/mo. I have found other means of getting pretty much the same content as before, if not more, with better features, better UI, and more convenience. All that extra money goes towards my school fund now.

Hmm, no. If you don't like Netflix, don't pay for it.

I love Netflix. If there is a better option out there, please, someone show me the light, and I'll love that service even more. But otherwise, stop being retarded. I don't bitch and whine about services I don't like, I just don't buy them...

I don't get where all of the whining is coming from, either.

It was way too cheap to go on forever. Entitlement mentality FTL.
