I haven't had any problems, have had netflix for a few months now.

Only gotten 1 broken disc I think. A couple were badly scratched, but cleaning them worked except for 1 disc, so I guess that makes 2 damaged. When I did have a disc damanged, I told them on the website and I have a replacement THE NEXT DAY. What more could you possibly ask for?

A friend of mine has had it about a month so far, and no damaged disks on that account yet.

It is literally impossible for me to watch 9 movies a week with netflix, even if they didn't delay me (which they don't). I guess you must have 3 or 4 at a time? I have 2 at a time.

It takes 3 days for turnaround. If I watch 2 movies on monday, and ship them back the next morning, I might get them on wednesday. If I watch those, then ship them back on thursday, then assuming they ship on sat (which they don't, I think), I could get the next 2 on saturday. That's 6 movies per week, or more accurately 20 movies in 3 weeks.

With the 3 movie plan that's 9 movies maximum, and probably not in actuality since sometimes it takes more than 2 days for turnaround and sundays and saturdays are iffy.

Also, in order to feasibly watch 9 per week, I personally would need to have a complicated system involved. I couldn't just send 3 at a time, because that would mean I'd have to watch 3 movies every 3rd night, including weeknights, which is at least 6 hours. No way. I couldn't just watch 1 per day either, because that would be 7 movies per week. I'd have to do something like watch 1 monday, send it, watch 2 tuesday, send them, watch 1 wednesday, watch 2 more thursday, watch 1 friday, 2 saturday, and 0-1 sunday. Which means I'd have to have no plans on any weeknight that would preclude me from spending 4 hours watching movies, unless I was really dedicated and used some sort of amazing computer program to accurately predict and calculate my schedule. Needless to say I'd have to have either a cinemaphile girlfriend or no girlfriend.

If you have 4 per week, I suppose it's more feasible, although you'd still need to have SOME sort of system.

Not saying it's impossible, but I don't know many people who could keep up a 9 movie/week pace for more than a few weeks with those constraints. Maybe you are a student or something who has no job and doesn't study, that would be the only realistic way to actually watch 9 movies per week using netflix on a regular basis.

Of course, I can easily watch 9 movies per week without netflix, and have done so in the past. But it was more like 6 on the weekend and 3 during the week. And I doubt I could keep that pace up. The primary factor here would be that I have seen enough movies now that there really aren't 9 movies WORTH SEEING per week.

As for new releases, add them to your queue well before they come out and you'll be fine. It's first come, first serve.

My only experience with netflix customer service is when I asked whether they had the remastered neon genesis evangelion or not. I got a response within 24 hours.

Well I sent my movies in on Monday. Today it's Friday and netflix has not received all 3 of my movies. And yes I do watch 2 or 3 movies a day after I get back from work. Come back home at 6:30 pop in a movie and eat. Come 8 to 8:30 pop in another movie. Watch last movie and go to sleep at midnight. I'll watch it unless the movie(s) sucks.

I don't bother with Netflix, or big chains like Blockbuster. I go to the local video store that is owned by a local family, and spend my money there. I prefer to support local business, and I think I can handle a 5 minute drive down the road to get a movie or two.

IMO, if they advertise their service as "unlimited", it doesn't seem to make much sense to "slow down" someone who uses the service more than most...

OP, read the terms of service. If you rent too many movies, Netflix reserves the right to throttle the amount you receive. Maybe YOU should take the time to read what you agreed to.

So, then is their service really "unlimited"?

Technically, because of the way the system is setup even without the throttling, it's not even unlimited due to their only being so many days in a month and there being a lag time between receiving and sending movies.

I dont know why some of you have so many issues. Do you put the return in your own mailbox, or do you take it to the post office? Morning or evening dropoff?
I take mine to the PO Monday morning, and get my new ones on Thursday. Some number of days hold true for any day of the week I get them sent.

they are sending you the top movies in your queue from whatever DC has them available.

and it is very true that the longer you've had a disc in your queue the faster you get it. Add movies while they are in the theater and you will likely get them right away. It's first come first serve, so if you add a movie that comes out next week today, you will be at the end of the list

Agree

# Slow turnaround time (from the time you return a movie and get one back is approx. 1 wk.) - Wrong 3 days on average

Not for me, but it isn't a week for me either, it averages 4 days.

# Frequent renters get penalized with even slower turnaround time - Pissed off because Netflix is trying to stop you from pirating?

They penalized me, and others I know. We aren't pirating. I only average 1 DVD every other day.

# service deteriorates after free trial (bait and switch) - Wrong

Maybe not for you but for me it is, and others I know it has.

# Long waits on new releases - Wrong This is only true if you fall into the frequent renters category

True, but renting just 3 DVDs a week puts you in the category.

# No shipments on Saturday, Sunday or holidays - Don't remember

They don't ship on sat, sun, or holidays.

# Most DVDs are badly scratched and may not play (advice) - Wrong Sure they have some scratches, but I've only ever received one horribly scratched DVD

I only recieved one that couldn't be played.

# Broken & lost DVDs through the mail - Wrong Only happened once

Happen once for me.

# Rentals do not arrive in the order requested - Wrong

I very rarely get DVDs in the order I requested them. Even though they say on the queue. Often for my series DVD I get 1 and 3 first and 2 the next day. Or worst I got 2 and 3 first and I don't get disc 1 until a day or 2 later even though they claimed to have mailed them at the same time.

Once, I called them just hours after the wrong movie had shipped, and magically the correct movie was suddenly "available" again.

They don't report when they actually get the movie back. It's been taking upwards of 5 days for movies to get to them -- but always one day to get back here. We ship straight from the post office.

Their policies intentionally make it slower for people who rent more movies. Read the Terms of Service. You DO NOT have the ability to get unlimited movies like they claim. If you are renting too much, they will slow your turnaround down. A lot.

bah...

that and they have almost no customer service. Have you ever tried looking for a phone number on their website?

No person legitimately watches 6-9 movies a week. If you're pushing a two-day return period, yea, they're going to slow you down, because it's clear your intentions aren't legitimate.

Slow downs can be for as little as 3 DVDs a week.

Umm...so you're calling me a theif? If you want to judge me, why don't you sit in a corner and suck your thumb because you DON'T KNOW how many movies I attempt to watch in a week. Bye.
If you are watching 6-9 movies a week, you are paying about $0.50 per rental that is delivered to your door. You have nothing to complain about if they slow you down a bit...

It isn't a little bit, it is months. They block many movies form you for months. Not days.

Blockbuster FWIW. I found net flix to be slower in turn-around so I only used thier trial period. Been with blockbuster for a little over a year and they are steadily fast and have more selection.

if it weren't for netflix blockbuster woulda dragged its feet on carrying widescreen even longer:p let alone unrated directors cuts and such. and course there was the issue of them scamming people with their late fees:p they settled on a class action or something.

Mammoth Video has the same deal, $24/mo., two at a time, unlimited number of rentals per month, max of 31 days.

So, in the 22 months I've been a member, I've gotten 90 dvd's from netflix. That's about 4 a month. Hardly much. And yet, they've slowed me down so that I won't even get a single dvd this week, even though 2 were shipped out last week and one shipped out on mondy. What pisses me off is the way they deceptively hide the fact that they slow it down. They DO NOT report when it was recieved -- they delay that reporting until the day they ship. They're liars.

I would cancel but they have a great anime collection.
