just found out that my neighbor's wife claims no income and the kids get free medical from the state as a result. The dad owns a landscaping business and makes a bunch of money.

I was thinking of reporting them, but I'm waiting for the ATOT "mind your own business" reasoning. Is it wrong to be peeved that my taxes are paying for their kids' well being while they drive new BMW's and take month long vacations?

I don't see how that's possible if they are married, unless they are "married"

Well she says she's the wife, He says he's the husband. They are from mexico, so maybe they were married down there and don't claim it up here on legal forms and documents.

I would take pleasure in reporting the crap out of them. It IS your business since you ARE paying for their Welfare checks as a tax payer.

yeah. I mean really, they would have to file a 1040 married filing joint, and then it wouldn't matter if she had no income because it's all the same form anyway. but yeah, report that sht

Had the same thing happen with my next door neighbor. The couple wasn't married and the husband owned a restaurant and bought a Harley and a giant Nissan SUV close to one another. They were also looking for a $300k to $500k house. In the meantime, both their kids were on Georgia's Peach Care program and the mom used the state's healthcare program to pay for her pregnancy and childbirth.

I think I posted about it here actually.

yeah they've got BMW's a new Tahoe, a new F350, and the Dad is getting a custom made chopper next month. Their house is worth twice as much as the next highest valued house on the block.
Plus he owns another house down the street. Did you end up reporting them?

Its also possible his business is just crooked and is "losing money". My friend used to work for a landscaping company and while he wasn't a prize pig himself, the company was commiting all kinds of tax fraud, paying people under the table, etc.

No, my wife and I were really torn on the subject. On the one hand, we were ticked at what they were doing but we both loved their two little girls. We ended up moving not long after so nothing came of it.

They are indeed assholes, but I don't know if what they're doing is technically illegal. It's certainly abusing the program and public funds, but is it actually illegal?

yep we're having the same issue. My daughter is the same age as their kids, and they're the only kids on the block. In fact we all get along really well.

that said, it's like they're stealing from me.

I seriously doubt that they're being honest when filling out any forms. So wouldn't it be illegal to lie to the government? Isn't that fraud?

Dunno what state he's in. Maybe his state has a policy that uninsured children get free insurance, regardless of income level.
