Neighbor storing garbage in their backyard. (with pic) UPDATED: 10/18/2011

I'm pretty sure they don't pay for garbage service. I've never once seen them put a trash can out on the street for pickup. I was going to let it go until we had to sell the house just so we wouldn't be creating enemies.

However, I've been starting to find snakes in our yard. I think they've been living under the trash bags. In addition, the amount of mosquitoes in our yard is unbearable. I can't even go outside for more than 5min before being eaten alive. The poor dog is constantly scratching and I'm pretty sure water is pooling on those trash bags and creating the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

If that wasn't bad enough some animal got into the bags and spread trash all over their yard. I can now smell the rotting trash and I've had it.

What is the best way to resolve this? I haven't confronted them yet, but if I do and then later report them they will know it was me. If I just report them there is a chance they may not know who did it (any possibly avoid creating enemies who may retaliate).

Also, who exactly would I report them to? We don't have a HOA.

Here is a pic I took a few days ago:

You have to pay for a garbage service?

I would report it. Living next to them is not good for your health.

Call your town office, its against code, and prob breaks some health rules

and yes Jodell88 in most places you have to pay for trash removal or you take it to the dump. which also costs money for a permit to dump there

I wouldn't say most places... I would say most places that aren't in a city or suburb.

Ah, America. Where everyone thinks they can be up in everyone elses shit. It's really too bad you don't have an HOA. 🙄

Reason #5623708723 why I don't want neighbors.

That said, this particular incident is probably a health department matter.

So you think it's perfectly fine to dump garbage in your backyard?

Our city requires that you dispose of garbage.

The reason you have more snakes is from all the mice, rats, and other rodents that pile of trash is attracting.

If you lived near me and had this disgusting habit of accumulating garbage, creating a breeding ground for disease, mosquitoes and vermin, I would report your dirty ass too. You are the problem, not the OP.

Wow really? That is your response in this situation? And the desire to want your neighbor to stop throwing trash in the backyard creating a hazardous environment for everyone else is limited only to America? 😱

Even if you don't have neighbors, imagine if someone created a dumpsite next to your property, and just started dumping trash there. I hope you don't have complaints about that 🙄

I never call first like a taddle tale you never know what's going on. I would tell the neighbor he's living like a pig and if he doesn't clean it up I'm calling health department.

I always first talk to my neighbors about a situation. I then ask or sometimes demand if I am angry enough, and give them an opportunity to take care of the problem. If the problem is not fixed within a reasonable time frame, then I call the police.

If it happens again, the cycle repeats, until I have asked and demanded to the point that my patience is worn thin. Then I just call the police. If it has gotten to this point, they tend to move away shortly after.
