On an indivuidal basis, it's almost never "worth it". I don't agree with the war in Iraq. I think we should bring our boys home and pay $10 a gallon (or more) for gas.

But what kind of country would we be living in if everyone thought like you and what language do you imagine would we be speaking?

We have to have a military. But we also have politicians running that military that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. To me, that's what fucks our boys up and that is the sad part.

i basically agree with what youre saying. and of course we need a military to fend off adolf hitler or stalin. but sitting in a third world country being miserable for years on end, with no hope of a decent result because the people dont want what youre offering, and doing it for no gain to yourself, is not worth it for anyone.

actually oil is the only good reason for wars like these but our politicians were too stupid to take the friggin oil when they had the chance. at this point its all a waste of time, money, life and energy

i highly suspect that if no americans were in iraq or afghanistan we would all still be speaking english (and not afghani or iraqi) and the country would be several trillions of dollars better off. and there would be a whole lot more 20 year olds with all their arms and legs

WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT SEND ANY ITEMS

Even though some may technically be allowed, it will most likely ending up bad, particularly if you're dumb enough to send food.

My brother was in USAF BMT over the holidays last year. Some dude got sent a cake and like 2lbs. worth of cookies from his stupid mother. The TI made him eat the cake in front of everyone and the cookies, about halfway through the cookies when he started throwing up, they threw it away and made him run or something for like, a week. And this was just chair force lollipop eating AF guys, I don't want to imagine what a USMC TI would have done

Do not send items. That's not what they want. Send letters. Only letters. Letters talking about anything. Some of the best letters are just simple ones talking about what you've done over the weeks. Cool stuff to make them laugh, encouraging stuff, try to shy away from stuff that makes them miss home too much. Handwrite your letters, it adds a very welcome personal touch.

maybe you should send him some discharge papers before he's sent to some war and finds out he made the biggest mistake of his life. i cant believe anyone would waste their time and life doing that for this country

Fuck you

i wasnt trying to be a douche even though i suspected you guys might react this way. politics aside, how would he feel if his friend came back dead or even worse, horrifically injured and psychologically screwed up? would he think it was worth it from his standpoint? after living like that for a few years i doubt anyone would. and i always vote republican. but i would never let anyone i cared about join the military.

You are an idiot. I was in the USMC 10 years ago and it was the best and hardest thing I have ever done. I am still very good friends with most of the people I served with.

How long does usmc training go for? I loved my basic training it was great. But yeah, you can get people into a lot of trouble if their trainers are assholes. Ask the guy firs if you can send chocolate or anything like that. They made us open up our mail in front of everyone.

I didnt get mail, i didnt want it.

When my friend called me that he was depressed in boot camp because no one was writing he also mentioned that when anyone opened a letter with a picture in it everybody would grab it and pass it around. He tried to close the conversation by saying "I miss you, you little dick" but with the emotion and stress it came out "I miss yououo little dick", but the yououo sounded a lot like your.

Being the good friend I was I immediately took a picture of my penis and sent it to him with a letter that read "You said you missed my little dick, so here it is. Hope your company enjoys the pic as well."

Now neither of us is in the least bit gay, but I just couldn't pass up that opportunity. When he got done and came home for a visit later the first thing he did was punch me as hard as he could for causing him to endure more than a month of homosexual ribbing and an inquiry from the Navy about his sexuality.

He sees the humor in it now, many years later. I personally thought it was funny from the beginning.

Do not send anything but letters.

Lets put it this way.. they are not allowed to bring anything with them to bootcamp except their ID, SS Card and a max of 10$ cash for the first day.

If you bring anything with you they bag and tag it you get it after you graduate that includes watches, clothes, electronics everything..

Its Boot camp.

Send him shit when he goes to school for his job.

My nephew flys to PI for bootcamp next sunday.

A friend of mine is in USMC Boot Camp

So I was looking for things to send to him, something I can print out.
I'm looking for something funny just to get his mind off of things

Suggestions for anything else I should send him would be nice (Motivational?)

Thanks a lot for you help,
Alfa147x

Don't. My buddy caught a LOT of shit when we sent him a stack of issues of The Onion. He had to explain to his Drill Sgt that it was a "satirical newspaper" and the guy was not amused. All mail is received and opened in front of the CO.

Send him a case of beef jerky.

I'm about to receive my commission.
I greatly expect to make a trip to the Sand and Mountains vacation destination within a year of going to my first assignment.

I humbly accept the risks of losing limbs, having shrapnel destroy a healthy mind, or death.... it's what happens.

If you want to live in a country, that country needs a military.

Would you "let" a friend become a police officer? That is not without risks either.

No matter what shape I come back home in, if in any shape, I'll always view it as worth it.
It's a very select group of people who are willing to accept these risks to ensure this great nation stands the test of time and strides through anguish, so that the large majority of people can continue living life the way they always have, if not better.
We stand to protect progress and freedom. Someone has to do it.

If you become friends with someone with such a strong character as to embody this spirit, I most certainly hope you wouldn't talk them out of it. You should be thankful to know someone who can take the greatest risks for such little personal reward.

wait... even in the winter ?

Well talking to my uncle they are having some record lows. Damn you Gore.

Growing up though, we were swimming by March. As soon as things turn around, he will want them if he can have them.
