I just can't stand crashing into something and not have the car damaged one bit! Also the advertisements before the game is done loading is fricken annoying, it seems the game has lost touch with it's roots and my steering wheel doesn't work too well with it anymore. I just don't feel like I'm driving anymore, yes NFS2 Hot pursuit was a large disappointment because the steering wheel was like pressing the arrow key on the keyboard, same with the gas pedals. You press the gas and it maxes out, same with steering which really ruins the experience. Even NFS3 had very good association with the gas pedal and steering wheel. It was so realistic, pressing on the gas slightly didn't revv up the engine to the max like in the more recent versions. I played NFS because it was the closest simulator to GT series on the PS2 that I know of. I know the physics where kind of out of whack but I STILL find the series fun to play. The Underground series is just a very big disappointment, it saddens me where the series has gone. It's not the whole atmosphere of the game or anything, I like it a lot but it seems the game has been dumbed down so it's just GAS, Brake, Left and Right. Nice graphics, but disappointing physics, no damage models, ads before the game, too dumbed down/simplified UGH!
There's no dispute that NFSU2 is a very arcade style game. This means "pick up and play," or in your words, dumned down. If you want some sim you'll need to search elsewhere. TOCA Race Driver 2 is an excellent place to start.

They cannot damage the vehicles due to licensing agreements with the car manufactures. The car manufactures do not want to see their cars trashed. Lame, I know...but this is what the contracts dictate. Its not like the technology is there. This same agreement is popular and speakds throughout other games too (Gran Turismo).

Is it me or are these cars ugly as hell after applying all the "pimp" mods? I liked the look of the Celica, but after you put all that crap on it to get the rating up it looks like crap.

Yes. It is vitally important in this game that you must make your car look as horrible as possible, you need to make your car the closest to a reject from The Fast And The Furious as possible to progress.

It is a shame, because out of the body kits etc, the level 1/2 stuff is MUCH nicer than the later stuff :(

I REALLY want someone to make a NFS:U style game, but with it using the GTR physics engine :D

How'd you get it above 1024x768 res? I can't increase the res any higher than that in the game.

I have :
Athlon XP 2800
ASUS A7N8X - Deluxe
1 GIG PC2700 RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4200

Dude, don't even worry I'm running at 1280x1024 with fairly high settings (texture and detail maxed) on:

XP 1800+
Asus A7V-266e
512 pc2100 DDR
Radeon 8500DV 64 meg

I'm really surprised how good it looks though the framerates are nothing to brag about. Your system will do just fine.....

SkyBum: OMG... That's good to hear. I was starting to worry that my AXP2000+, 512MB RAM and GF4 Ti4200 isn't gonna cut it anymore :)

lemme guess, you have an nVidia card with an LCD right? the only way I was able to fix this was to connect my analog video cable to my LCD, swap over to the analog out and then start the game. after you change your resolution, exit and swap back to your DVI out. when you start the game again, all the resolutions should have stayed should you wanna change it again

i believe this is an nvidia bug because it didn't happen to me when I was on ATI and this is not the only game I have this issue with.

Cool deal. Thanks. I'll give that a shot.
And yes, you were dead on with nvidia/lcd. I have 6800u and 2001fp.
