okay are we seriously going to start this again?

0.999...(to infinity) = 1
1.999....(to infinity) = 2

We have discussed this ad-infinitum on this forum. How can like three of you guys not know this?

This is only true if you are on a treadmill.

Considering it's a percentile score... yea those numbers are actually pretty low; way for a whole thread to fail at maths.

You don't think a 23% failure rate on what amounts to a pulse test is bad? This isn't Intel or Google they're applying for....

Getting a 31 on the test means you did better than 31% of the people who took it the last time they normalized the score... Sigh... People who think they're smart talking about things they don't know about only look stupid. ~30% are expected to fail based on how they grade it. Although yes you have to essentially be mentally retarded to fail it.

That test was such a joke. I think when I did it there were 2 or 3 sections and you could only do 1 at a time with a break in between. So as I finished the one I had in about a quarter of the given time I took a nap since there was nothing else to do and the schmuck playing proctor comes by to wake me up and remind me to take the test seriously and such crap.

I don't see where it says anything about normalized scores. You have to get 31/99 correct to pass that stage. It's a straight percentage. If you know something about the test that isn't stated in the article, that's no reflection on me.

This is hard. I'm thinking the answer is 2 because 4 divided by 2 is 2, but I'm not sure that my reasoning is right. Maybe it's because the square root of 4 is 2. Or is it because 4 minus 2 is 2? There's so many possible answers. :hmm:

I hope you're being sarcastic.

I don't remember getting a breaks, but yea there's like 9 sections. I finished each in like 1/3 of the time given except for the last one I was a little closer to the time limit.

^ has a lot of information on the test if anyones curious.

I know a couple of Tech Sgts currently serving who can't read a map. HTF do you get to be a Sargent without being able to read a map?

Simple. Your sergeant is just as or more retarded than you because the leaders we have today are more worried about friendships and relationships that dropping the hammer on people.

I command an Army Reserve unit and just since I took command in February, I have worked diligently to discharge Soldiers for the following:

1) Drug test failure: THC (marijuana)
2) Drug test failure: Cocaine (blow)
3) Pedophile (23 y.o. sex w/ 14 y.o.)
4) Aiding and Abetting a known felon and homosexual porn participant

Those are just the ones that have actively screwed up under my command. I have probably 20+ more that I'm working on getting rid of because they decided one day that they didn't want to participate anymore. Other than Honorable discharges are going to sting them for a long, long time in life. Also, more than half of the rest of them are failing their physical fitness test standards and/or the height and weight requirements.

Welcome to the Army!

A better question is, how the heck did they graduate from high school in the first place?

Because we placed the emphasis on a percentage of kids graduating and nothing else. Instead of letting the dumb ones fail and drop out, leaving more resources for the ones that actually want to learn.
Basically, they've dumbed down our education system to make it easier for more kids to pass. Instead of making it harder forcing children to think more, and work harder at learning.
What's sad is it all boils down to getting federal moeny for the school district. If you have X percentage of kids graduating you get more money.

We should remember that this is only 26% of test takers, not all American high school students. Indeed, I would say that the former group is not reflective of the latter.

I have heard of high schools administering the ASVAB to all of their students, but nothing like that ever happened where I am from. Indeed, taking such a test is probably looked down upon by most around here, especially when a lot of parents are more concerned about their kids studying for AP tests (i.e. kids are on the track to go to college, not the army). I would venture to say that the top ~10% of students never take the ASVAB.

Secondly, I would expect many of those who are seriously considering joining the Army out of high school probably did not do well enough in school to go to college, which means ASVAB takers are not as smart as the average student.

Sure it is Cannon Fodder = Infantry. :)

Don't take this personally. We all know that if you cannot qualify for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard you can still get into the Army.

This is a stereotype perpetuated by those who are ignorant of actual reality.

Infanty is not "cannon fodder". The Infantry is out there accomplishing the tasks, goals and mission of the United States. They are the shapers and movers on the battlefield. Sometimes that involves combat, sometimes that involves building a school. "Cannon Fodder" is not even close to an accurate term.

Or they don't want to run up thousands in student loans? There's a lot of financial and education benefits to joining any branch of the military, you know. Not everyone who servers in the military, keeping you safe, I should add, is a slack jawed red neck.

I remember being so anti-military in high school that I purposely filled out the bubble sheet of my ASVAB to draw pictures rather than to answer the questions.

Recruter's still kept calling me constantly to enlist.

I have the highest respect for those who serve in the armed forces, and I understand that some who seek to join the Army out of high school do it for financial reasons. This is why I said "probably...most". Perhaps not "most," but I bet this is nonetheless true in many cases. I am just trying to say that "test takers" does not equate to all American high school students.

That is exactly why I joined right out of High School. My parents did not have the cash to pay for college. I didn't get enough scholarships to pay for it. So I joined the Army National Guard and they paid all of my tuition plus a couple hundred extra a month for both my degrees (BS in Mech Eng and BS in Aerospace Eng.).

My ASVAB score was 99% I think. My recruiter was a little surprised when I told him I wanted to enlisted as a 13-B cannon crewman. I picked it out of convenience since their unit was close to campus. There was a mix of slack jawed rednecks and smart college kids in my unit which maid for some interesting interpersonal dynamics.

Plus it was really fun shooting a 155mm cannon, M2 Machine gun, Mk-19 grenade launcher, M-60 and other various weapons on the weekends.

No. You sir are a dumbass.

If you had the best teacher in the world in a class with these dumbasses ( like yourself ) that don't care and don't want to learn anything. How much do you think they will learn?

Nothing they don't give a shit.

I forgive you. You are just a child and don't know any better. Another winning comment from TridenT. :O suprise.

Go eat some more fruit loops.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

YOU REALLY ARE A MORON!

A GOOD teacher would get the class of people who don't care and don't want to learn anything motivated to learn the subject at hand. A good teacher would inspire the students.

Fuck, man. Just watch Stand and Deliver (1988). Good example.

Of course you think everything is upon the students to be motivated, to want to learn, to want to do everything and anything to please their superiors. Kids don't come out of the womb sayin', "FUCK YEAH, I WANNA LEARN CALCULUS 'CAUSE THAT SHIT IS AWESOME." They get told that by their good teachers and then they're like, "Alright, maybe this guy is onto something... Shit, this stuff isn't so bad. Calculus actually is kinda cool now that my teacher has made it so amazing."

Not sure about the written test but the fitness test could easily weed out more than 25%

Article.does not surprise me though. Its reasonable to say.a good portion of people who try to get into the military arent qualified to work anywhere else, and get surprised that you just cant walk into basic training

Were all of those tests taken by people seeking to join the military? I can tell you that while in HS we were forced to take the ASVAB, and quite a few people purposely failed the test so they wouldnt be hounded by recruiters. I have to say that after scoring quite well on the test, I wished I had not, after being called on a weekly basis from the recruiting office asking me if I had changed my mind about joining.

I took it pretty recently and it was computerized. You could move to the next section instantaneously if you wanted. I think I finished the whole thing in under an hour, but I really have no idea because I didn't have my cell phone or watch or anything with me.

I can't imagine how little people must pay attention in school to not score at least a 31.
