NBA is no more

At least for this year.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ect-offer-disband-union-season-likely-doomed/

NBA players voted to reject the owners' latest offer. They also voted to start the decertification process. A formal decertification vote should occur within 45 days.

The owners will respond by worsening their offer considerably.

At this point, unless one side loses quickly and definitively in court (which won't happen) the '11-'12 season is completely gone with a decent chance that part or all of the '12-'13 season is missed as well.

So basically the players are going to lose even more money by not collecting pay checks this year, only to accept smaller ones for the years to come. BRILLANT!

Damn, I was trying to make mine pretty and you beat me to it. Regardless, this will be bad for the NBA - they were finally recovering from '99. Also, if the union is decertified, then all contracts are null and void. Could make things interesting!

Not a big loss for me. Don't follow the NBA that much.

What little I've read, I get the impression that it's the players being unreasonable with their demands, obviously thinking the NBA is doing much better than it is. Someone else who actually knows what's going (i.e. actually follows the situation, not someone who has "followed" it as well as me) on want to give their tidbits?

They didn't have a choice. The owners tried to take back the house, the pool, the flower garden, and the free doggie bags at the dog park from the players.

Should be interesting to see what this does to the sports popularity - and the kids who think 'I don't need to do well in school I'll just become a Pro-basketball star'

I actually enjoy the streetball games that have been going on this summer. I think not allowing players to get pumped is stupid.

SWEET more Law & Order Reruns

always hated BB season because i could not watch as much L&O

also more NHL hopefully

players made 57% of revenue the past 10 years. many owners lost money in that period, want to be back to profitability. offer 50/50 split on revenue, plus system changes to allow for smaller markets to be more competitive.
players rejected deal.

basically, the players are being greedy.

Large market owners are pissed right now...they were profitable and would have gladly settled for less...now they will be paying a lot of money for the smaller market owners to get a better leg up.

I don't know if I'd go THAT far, however in the big picture if they were taking all that back, it still seems insignificant when they already had 3 houses, 3 pools, tons of flower gardens and multiple dog bags to begin with.

My stance is this wouldn't pass in any other business. You work for an employeer, you get a pay check. When business takes a dive they decided to make cuts. As an empolyee you have no right to ask to see their books. You can accept it or get a new job.

Won't someone please think of the team owners,... who won't be able to make money for '11/'12?!?!

i know you're being sarcastic but....
first and foremost, i'm most concerned about local business.
secondly, the non-star players are the ones that will be suffering.
those that don't have alt means of income like endorsements.

This is horrible news!

How is Lebron going to feed his family?!

I don't want to see my champion hero sucking cock under the bridges of Miami to make ends meet to feed his family!!!
