a Secret Clearance isn't all that strict of a background check, now a TS is a whole different level... just some FYI there.

TS still isn't all that crazy.

A Secret Clearance is pretty much given away to anyone without a felony who has a credit score over 400. TS is much more indepth and it goes higher and higher depending on the Clearance. I've always said it should be more indepth even for the entry level, but the problem arises where your average Janitor also needs a clearance.

After getting more facts on this my ultimate question is why this man had a clearance of any level;

- Previous Eviction
- PTSD
- 1 Gun Charge - Seattle (discharging a firearm in a municipality, a Class A misdemeanor)
- 1 Gun Related Arrest - Forth Worth
- Discharged from the Navy with a pattern of misconduct

Seattle Police Report said:
Alexis was arrested after shooting three rounds into the tires of a vehicle that belonged to construction workers. Police recovered casings from the scene. They attempted to make contact with Alexis, but no one would answer the door. Alexis was arrested the following month and charged with Malicious Mischief and discharge of a firearm.

Alexis would later confess to the crime of discharging his weapon for the purpose of shooting out the tires on the car the construction workers owned. Alexis told police, according to the report, that he perceived the victim had disrespected him and he then had a “black out” fueled by anger.

Fort Worth Police Report said:
“He said that he was trying to clean his gun while cooking and that his hands were slippery. He told me that he began to take the gun apart when his hands slipped and pulled the trigger, discharging a round into the ceiling,” the report states.

What we have here is a pattern of misconduct, any of these taken individually might not be a huge deal when taken in context but seriously "cleaning the weapon lead to an accidental discharge" what a load of BS. The LEO's involved should have did some more checking.

Whoever did his clearance interview and background investigation is likely sweating bullets right and should be. The Seattle incident alone being a Class A misdemeanor is confusing as hell, I would think shooting at a vehicle with 3 occupants would be more serious.

it's sick how quick this shit gets turned into a gun control debate.
It seems that way, but really what else are we supposed to talk about? I think we all agree that the murder spree was bad.

---

I am reading this morning that he went in with only a shotgun and procured the other two guns along the way.

On CBS this morning, the news crew said he was recently upset over not being paid for a government contract....

.....so clearly it's the fault of the racist scum sucking republikunt congress stealing money from the black man.

I love how most of the anti-gun comments I'm reading (on various news sites) are denigrating the idea of armed guards, and using this shooting as an excuse to call them "useless". They don't even think 1 step ahead to "if those guards hadn't been there, would more have been killed?" We'll never know, but I'm pretty sure some guards are better than no guards.

At least this seems logical given their position. If we are to disarm citizens then disarm the govt as well.

As one blogger puts it:

The DC shooter had two gun arrests, including one where he fired a bullet into his neighbors apartment and didn’t even bother to check on her. He suffered from delusional paranoia, heard voices, and had a security clearance and a concealed carry license. And the Navy let him slip through security yesterday carrying a rifle.

Based on this from the AP.

I believe he only acquired a handgun from a cop but brought the other 2 weapons in with him.

CNN just got updated info saying he only had the shotgun, rented an AR-15 from a Lorton, VA (Gun Range) but could not buy one.

That's how they're spinning it, making the reader believe he entered with that deadly assault rifle when that is factually NOT TRUE. He entered the facility with only a shotgun. This came from police and video. He acquired the handgun and rifle from people police/security he shot.

Next up - "he learned the tactic of picking up weapons from people he shot from video games, he had all the training he needed!"

This isn't the great Obama's fault, blame the Republicans! Blame whitey!

Whatever you do, don't look at the man behind the curtain who gave TS clearance to a less than honorably discharged navy vet with mental issues. And certainly don't look at his VA doc that didn't flag him in NICS.

It's Jared Laughner all over again, we need to start holding these docs accountable. If they would only do their fair share... :sly:

Maybe no AR-15 (or any rifle for that matter) involved in the shooting?

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/17/us/ar-15-gun-debate/?hpt=hp_t1

However, federal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one -- a shotgun -- that investigators believe Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex.

I think the blame is best laid at Clinton. He is the one that disarmed everybody on military bases.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/11/end-clinton-era-military-base-gun-ban/

Time after time, public murder sprees occur in “gun-free zones” - public places where citizens are not legally able to carry guns. The list is long, including massacres at Virginia Tech and Columbine High School along with many less deadly attacks. Last week’s slaughter at Fort Hood Army base in Texas was no different - except that one man bears responsibility for the ugly reality that the men and women charged with defending America were deliberately left defenseless when a terrorist opened fire.

Among President Clinton’s first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases. In March 1993, the Army imposed regulations forbidding military personnel from carrying their personal firearms and making it almost impossible for commanders to issue firearms to soldiers in the U.S. for personal protection. For the most part, only military police regularly carry firearms on base, and their presence is stretched thin by high demand for MPs in war zones.

Our media is fucked. It went from 3 dudes to 3 black dudes to 2 black dudes with 1 black dude with a M16 to a AR15 to a shotgun and two pistols.

Fuck the "reporting" in this country.

I read the facts article from CNN this morning. In the same article they claim he brought 3 weapons into the facility and he only brought a shotgun and got the two other weapons off his victims. In the same article they are claiming two different things!

Old media can't compete with the speed of new media while still fact checking, so bad information gets reported as facts during "fluid situations."

Off topic: "Fluid situation" is a stupid phrase.

Next up - "he learned the tactic of picking up weapons from people he shot from video games, he had all the training he needed!"

GMA did make sure to mention that he would sometimes spend 'several hours a day playing violent video games.' No conclusions were drawn but the inference is certainly there...
